Lets share some basics about oceans and travel. In an novel I read they said: an ocean is not a moat protecting an island but a highway for (viking) ships to reach any place very quik.
Essentially you need cavalry and signal fires if you want to defend against viking raiders.
Relating that to Valheim: Travel by ship should be faster than running across the land. The Islands of Valheim are very elongated. Essemtially the oceans are wide lanes which I use for extremly fast ship travel. Strategic placed artefical channels (RunemagicMod) are useful for shortcuts too.
For America: Going from coast to coast was not done by train or weagons but by 2 ship and crossing the smallest land gap possible.
Essentially the ship should be reasonable fast. Bigger ships are faster than boats in reality too.
When sailing the ValheimRaft was still fun, I was content whit a speed around 25. Now I just set it to 50 and keep the map open for covering up the jittering screen. Worsed thing what happens is running into a leviathan. Sometimes a rock in the middle of the ocean stopps the ship too. In both cases I usually get rid of the obstacles for future travels.
The newest version might be better on the jitter, but the underwater ground collision was problematic. I even stopped building ships with realistic holds for not having an underwater section of the ship. But essentially I am still recommanding 2.4.3. There is never a changelog. So it is hard to find out what has been fixed and what additional difficulties have been introduced.
Is anybody having experience with 3.10? How about tames and summons on VRaft? Mine were just flying of the VRaft and than that strange anchor stopping happened too. Not even talking about the space launch when using raftcreative.
Has someone already reported food items bugging the fudge out on the ship? Harvesting honey or food from a fire causes it to float in air and tick damage constantly until I move the boat out from under it. Any fixes?
Always build at least 2 ladders on both side of the ship. One might be not showing depending on the angle of the ship. Ladders break extremly fast, when hit by critters. So use extras.
About the fire and food. For me cooking on a ship became impossible. I could not place the items over the fire. Right now I just use ovens on ships. They still work for me. Might be a problem with gizmo. Might be fixed for 3.10. Who knows?
Hello everyone, I have a problem. Our boats on the server are very large. With sails that are adjusted to the boat size, we sail very slowly. I have already made some changes in the config, but they barely made any difference. Does anyone know what I need to adjust so that, for example, the boat doesn't have any mass or I can just have a small sail and sail fast? Please help me.
There is a hidden part in the config called Advanced Settings. You have to switch that on. Otherwise you do not see the needed config for speeding up the boat to useful levels.
There is an armor with SouthsilArmorMod which gives you always tailwind. It gives you an serious and unnatural speedboost with Valheimraft. All other tailwind items of all the other mods did not work for me. Basically the wind speed calculation for tailwind is totally botched. Maybe sinus and cosinus is difficult to program. The ValheimRaft is not recognised as a boat by other mods and the game after ditching the original raft center piece.
Your boat might get stuck a lot on the underwater ground collision which got introduced after 2.4.3. I use SeafloorWalkingbootsmod and RuneFocusMod to flatten the seafloor for my as small as possible ValheimRaft.
Underwater collision sucks for surface vessels. Big time. The new anchor is worse than 2.4.3. Dynamic location is wasting so much time. Can I get rid of that somehow?
There was a problem with maxspeed. It says with maxsailingspeed: Cannot exceed maxspeed, but maxspeed not part of the advanced settings. Therefore ship maybe always slow?
Totally like the no jitter anymore, but cannot use because of the rest. Maybe make a fork of 2.4.3 without jitter?
Yep and tar animation is now there even when jumping into the sea anywhere. Wow. Tar animation can go. Meaning delete it plz with sugar on top.
HI. So I have a problem, the mod I believe is installed properly, but it just does not work. There is no any error message popping up or anything like that. It is shown in mod manager/configuration manager as installed. I tried to reinstall it but no result. Can someone help me make it work?
ValheimRaft 2.5.3 is not working and not stable. Try 2.4.3. It works for me. You should consider SeafloorWalkingBoots. It is a lifesaver at sea. There is this DynamicLocation thing. It makes loading crazy long. But you can not delete it, if you want o use ValheimRaft. The folder should be named ValheimRAFT.

I'm running into an issue when im removing build pieces on the boat, it will lag every time and also sometimes launch the boat in the air. Another issue is if i dock anywhere on the map and venture off a good distance away, when i return to boat it is no longer where i dock it, but instead stuck in the sky somewhere.
Hey, I built my first own ship without an anchor but with a sail, steering wheel and rudder. I've tried everything, but it won't steer either forwards or backwards. Even a test with the water vehicle and the steering wheel alone did not let me turn the vehicle, only drive it forwards and backwards. is there a solution?
Have you found a solution? I'm having the same issue and I've tried attaching a pole to my sails all the way down to the raft base to no avail. The ship refuses to move with the sails up, and only forward with rudders. This sucks because otherwise everything works fine, the anchor bit, ladders, etc.
I am seeing the same speed issue (on a multiplayer server). If the wind is in my favour and the sails are at full speed, it's fine. Once the wind is against me and I raise the sails to use the rudder only, it moves at a tenth of the speed of the vanilla raft on a bad day. Strangely, with the sails at full speed with the wind against me, it moves faster, meaning it's always worth it to go at full speed on the boat.
But surely there's a bug here? Why would it move so slow? I even tried adding a second sail despite being a tiny boat but there was no speed change.
You can change the rudder speed in the settings. You can add rudder speed to the sail speeds in the setting too.

The jitter is far less. It looks like a humming engine now.
There are things to reduce displacements in the config.
Turn rate looks a lot boat like now.

There is a crazy box around my ship underwater.
My ship now stops at every deepsea obstacle. Before it was only at the waterline.
My ship topples over if I open a drawer from Bento Missing pieces.
The sails are hindering the player movements now. That is not nice at all.
A ship with accidently deleted chunky T wood V2 is now dipping its front very deep.
The ship is now destroying piers and stones again. I really do not want that feature.
Anchor is not working at all anymore.
I had 2.4.3 before. Maybe I should roll back?
Roll back successful! I would want 2.4.3 with jitter fix and maybe tar animation be gone as well as reduced turn rate. Maybe fix cooking on Vraft too.
I do have weather with me for allmost 2 minutes. It is nice when walking into a swamp, but not so cool if flying out of the mountain or sailing out of Ashlands. With portals it looks silly. I do suspect this mod for the causing it. The pause mode for single player is disabled on a Vraft. Is that even necessary?
Is this compatible with ValheimVR mod? Back then on the version 1 mod, i was able to use it with no problem. but on this one, i can't seem to grab the steering wheel
