I tried this mod once last week in private mode (not offline mode), it worked fine. I have 5 men in my squad. However, after I ran "verify integrity of game files" to remove this mod. Every reward and progress I had made was reset to the situation before I installed this mod. By the way, this mod is fun to play with. Thanks to the creator.
Does this actually work or is the installation guide missing something? Uninstalled and reinstalled SM2 several times with no difference in results. A bit more of an in-depth guide would be duly appreciated.
There are two folders (client and server), client for example, go to the space marine 2 directory on your PC, find default_other.pak, open it with winRar, 7zip, etc. Just drag the SSL folder from the 5 man squad mod that you download right into the winRar folder you just opened. close it. Do the same for server. Then you are done.
Step 2 would be to download pakcacher (see the required in description) to create the cache file.
If you are curious on what was actually changed, just open the game_mode_description_library.sso with a notepad, you will see under PVE, maxPlayersCount = 5. In Vanilla, it was 3. At least this is the main change that I spotted. Anyways, hope it helps.
Right click the .pak file, select winRar; Or, choose open with, and find winrar.exe.
Here're the steps I did and helped another dude with the 5 man squad MANUALLY. The reason I did it manually was because I also use the overhaul mod, if you install overhaul and then 5 man, or 5 man then overhaul, you will mess up the mods since they are overriding each other. So I usually do it manually, and steps are:
1. download/install whatever the mod you need want first. 2. Now you can either edit the file yourself. 2.1: go to your space marine 2 root folder. 2.2: Start with **client_PC**: go to "{sm2 root folder}\client_pc\root\paks\client\default\". 2.3: open up "default_other.pak" with winRar (It's free, do NOT buy it). 2.4: go to "default_other.pak\ssl\main\game\game_modes\descs". 2.5: open "game_mode_description_library.sso" with a notepad. 2.6: search "PVE =" 2.7: change the maxPlayersCount from 3 to 5. save it. 2.8: Then winRar will ask also ask you if you want to update the archive, click YES. 2.9: Use the Pakcacher to generate the "default_other.pak.cache" file. (By the way, did you have .NET framework 4.8 installed on your PC? This tool requires .NET framework otherwise it won't work. If not - https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework/net48. It's a tool from Microsoft so it's safe to install on your PC) 2.10: Do the above steps but for the **server_pc**, which locates in "{sm2 root folder}\server_pc\root\paks\server\default\".
This is the safest edit. This works especially for a modded game - I do have one that changes the pak file. Just edit the sso file and change from 3 to 5 as instructed by roughneck... it worked for me.
Something is missing in your instructions. Once the .sso file is open it already says "5", but then what are we supposed to do? Winrar doesn't ask anything and when you try to move any files over to the pak cacher the pak cacher quits.
i installed the latest astartes overhaul mod. then i did the edit for the 5 man mod, i still only have 2 men. when i use the edit for 5 man mod without the astartes overhaul it worked. when i used pakcacher i had to use both default_other.pak and default_other.cache in client and sever folder to work, could not use either or alone. my goal is just to have astates overhaul installed with 5 man mond and im good. any final suggestions or last thoughts about this topic ?
Unless anyone knows otherwise, currently you can apply the mod, but launching the game will put you in offline mode because it sees you have modded the game, but it doesn't actually give you any more members in your squad, so you get no progress for no functional mod, I've tried twice now.
I had to reinstall the mod(like I have to do every time they do an update), but It is working for me. I have 4 bots following me around. Hope you can get it to work!
