for Wartales v.1.0.40128 (03/11/2025)
DLCs probably required. I have them installed.
This is my personal QoL mod that I decided to share.
There are a lot of excellent mods for Wartales however, it can be difficult to combine them or they are not maintained after the updates as it can be quite a task to make all the edits each time there's an update.
I want to thank maxravenclaw, NexusPoliciesSuck, CrescentSaga, nessuno089089, Th3SmoGG, Olamide7, Oltopeteeh and others that I may have missed that provided a lot of useful information, guides and ideas on what to edit.
Future changes:
- v.1.5.1 will be the last version (unless there are bug fixes) UNTIL the Beast Hunt DLC drops later this month
- Once the Beast Hunt is release, I will release the version without DLC first and then DLC version
v1.5.1 - for Wartales v.1.0.40128 (patch release on 03/11/2025)
- Thanks to overkill for providing a save file. I was able to consistently recreate the tavern board issue that he was having and went back to double check all of the edits between v1.4 (which his save file worked just fine with) and v1.5. (where I was able to consistently crash the tavern board).
- It turned out that swapping places of two Fugitive items and some stats has caused this issue. After reverting the changes on those two items, I could not replicate the issue with the tavern board anymore and his save file worked fine with v1.5.1
- I was not able to recreate some other issues that people are having (mission not completing, black screen in the battle, black screen in the tomb) but give v1.5.1 a try and let me know if your issues are still happening (who knows what else these two small changes could have affected) and I'll continue to investigate things.
v1.5 - for Wartales v.1.0.40128 (patch release on 03/11/2025)
- Highest tier cooking station now has 50% chance to make delicious food (30%->50%)
- Adjusted Mission Negotiations - starting at 80%, much cheaper influence wise, more gold bonus
- Added a special horseshoe for those that want to be really speedy. Whispers say it once belonged to a fabled white stallion...(You only need to equip it on 1 pony, more for even faster speed. If you're missing the text, make sure you replace the export_(lang).xml file)
- More materials from dismantling armor. Added cloth to armor dismantling (you gain more from light/medium)
- Added two abilities at levels 13 and 14 to choose from to all classes (those are existing abilities from other classes that I thought would be fun to choose from and not useless). Let me know what you think in comments and if you have any suggestions for levels 16-19.
- Added all the crossbows that I could find. Uncommon, Rare and Legendary
- Added light, medium and heavy Skelmar armor. Some sets seem to be missing items. For example, light rare and heavy uncommon do not seem to exist (or I couldn't find them)
- Reworked all armor that was added in previous versions (removed duplicates, added some missing stats to Fugitive sets etc.)
- ALL extra items that were added to the anvil are now in compendium and MUST be learned before they show up in the Anvil. This way the Anvil doesn't get clogged with everything. Everything is free but must be unlocked first (learn & craft regular sets).
v1.4 - for Wartales v.1.0.40128 (patch release on 03/11/2025)
- Added approximately 200 items to the Anvil. Regular, rare and legendary weapons and armor with some generic recipes. These items did not have a recipe as an item define in the code so they will all be learned automatically once the requirements are met (usually Ghost/Rimesteel crafting), you do not need to learn them in the compendium (like you do additions from A la Carte), but the will still show up in there as a reference. Some of the legendary items are seriously OP and will make you virtually invincible if crafted early.
- Added the export_(lang).xml along with res.pak. This xml file adds the missing text to the new categories in the compendium (not necessary and will not break anything if you don't use it, you'll just be missing a few lines of text).
- Adjusted the EXP required for all levels but you will mainly notice the change from levels 7+ (7-8 had a drastic jump in Vanilla), should be slightly less grindy now
- Lowered the cost of Career Path points to 5/10 to help with lower level min/max when Influence can be harder to get.
- Adjusted skill levels on all classes. This came from looking into replicating Class Specialization (thanks for the suggestion in the comments!), however, I was unable to replicate it's functionality so I decided to do the next best thing (...I guess). Moved the skills up/down a level so that they are spread across more levels instead of having to pick from several skills at level 5 and 8, now there are generally 2 skills to choose from each level. Example in the images below. I know this may break some low level builds (as you may be able to learn some skills a level earlier or later) but in the long run, you'll have access to more skills and have some fun builds!

Skill Redistribution example 2
Skill Redistribution example 3
In case you have a weird occurrence where, for example, both lvl8 skills are grayed out and unavailable, but you learned lvl9 skill, just use Brotherhood Respec and everything will be sorted out. That happens when skill is moved from a level, but you have already learned it.
Please let me know if you're having any issues or if something is broken.
v1.3 - for Wartales v.1.0.40128 (patch release on 03/11/2025)
- Added armor from A la Carte mod to the compendium and anvil. Special thanks to Olamide7 for providing his help and notes!
- Added another category for Weapons which I will slowly start adding, currently there are only 2 that I tested.
- All extra weapons and armor that can be now crafted can be learned from compendium for free but you still need to meet other requirements (as in A la Carte mod).
- Faster recruit respawn. It should only take an in game hour or two for them to refresh however, most times I noticed that they still require some other trigger as well (rest, interact with merchant, pick up loot on world map etc.)
- No bad traits on tavern recruits. 25% chance of 2 good traits and 75% change of 1 good trait.
- Unlocked specializations (Swordsman, Marksman, Virtuoso, Assassin, etc.)
- Slightly increases XP per mob and per battle to help with the late game grind
- Everything from v1.2
v1.2 - for Wartales v.1.0.40128 (patch release on 03/11/2025)
- Enemy capture is now 100% provided that all other requirements are met (low health, rope/chains in inventory, etc.)
- Prisoners should no longer escape as long as you have a guard in the camp (100% reduction with Watchkeeping stool)
- Prisoner trust starts at 0 (instead of -50) and maximum is 75 (out of 100), you should be able to recruit them faster
- Everything in the Compendium can be learned with Knowledge points as long as other requirements are met (mainly crafting level), regional knowledge excluded
- Recipes give Knowledge Points now since everything is already unlocked
- Increased Knowledge gain for discovering, lectern and lowered the required exp per knowledge level (nothing too crazy here)
- Everything from v1.1
- Added Misc version for those that don't want a massive saddlebag weight capacity
v1.1 - for Wartales v.1.0.40128 (patch release on 03/11/2025)
- Increased saddlebag weight capacity to 2k
- Increased cooking pot bonuses to 10/15/20 to help with larger troop size
- Everything from v1.0
v1.0 - for Wartales v.1.0.40128 (patch release on 03/11/2025)
- Increased map walk and run speed
- Increased stamina and recovery
- Faster gathering material re-spawn
- Easier mining, woodcutting, and lockpicking
- Faster fishing
- Increased carry capacity for ponies and saddlebags
- Various adjustments to camp bonuses (Tent, Cooking, Workshop, Hitching Post)
- Increase mercenary level cap to 20
- All weapons and armor are now upgradable at the Brotherhood
Installation:
- Navigate to Steam\steamapps\common\Wartales and rename the res.pak to res_old.pak (or anything else) to make a backup of your original res file.
- Extract res.pak from the main 7z file to Steam\steamapps\common\Wartales
- You may get an error when starting the game "Some files were not installed properly and could cause errors" but I just ignore it and have no issues.
If you really like these changes but something is missing that you really want, please let me know and I'll try to make an update with those additions.
Hopefully, now that I have this base file, further changes will be easier with tools such as WinMerge or someone much smarter than me comes up with a script to do it automatically :)
I provided the data.cab file under optional files for anyone to use and make their own additional changes.
Follow this guide: Lazy Overhaul - Modding Guide to learn how this mod was made and how to make your own changes. It's simple, but time consuming.
I tested quite a bit and found no issues so far. Please let me know in the comments if you do find something odd, not working or if you'd like something added.
Have fun!
