About
This mod aims to turn Meditation into a much more immersive part of the game and expand its role within Alchemy. The mod overlays the Meditation UI on top of the game world, allowing you to see Geralt meditating whilst time passes. Additionally, the mod optionally restricts Alchemy to only when you are Meditating or at a herbalist. This is reflected with an additional button prompt highlighting Meditation's new role in the Alchemy process. All of this combines to bring the gameplay much more in line with the lore whilst feeling like a seamless extension of the base game; considerable effort has been made to make this mod feel like it was always a part of the vanilla experience! The Corvo Bianco bed works just as before, with a slightly updated design for consistency with the new Meditation menu.
To go further, you can combine this mod with Simple Alchemy Refill (just make sure to run Script Merger) to really turn up the dial on making Meditation part of your pre-battle preparations. You'll find that with both mods installed, before a fight Geralt must first meditate, selectively making new batches of the potions, oils and bombs he'll need for the battle ahead. This gameplay loop really makes you feel like a Witcher!

Requirements
- Requires the base game (Next-Gen, v4.04+), Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine. Does not support game version 1.32.
Configuration
- Currently the mod provides a few configuration options, see Features listed (Optional) above. If you can think of an option you'd particularly like let me know and I can look at adding it!
Compatibility
- Incompatible with other similar mods, including Friendly Meditation, Preparations and Immersive Meditation. This mod aims to achieve similar things to these great mods in subtly different ways, and is intended as an alternative to them.
- Compatible with Simple Alchemy Refill after running Script Merger (Brew With A View was made with this mod in mind, and I think the combination is great, that being said, it's not required, just highly recommended).
- Compatible with Swords and Meditation (another highly recommended combination, this will add Geralt's swords, crossbow and misc Alchemy items around the campfire, and really adds to that sense of preparation. Note: my mod will sometimes not spawn a campfire e.g. in an interior. However, Swords and Meditation will always spawn the items. So sometimes you will have items and no campfire when using these mods together. This isn't a major issue, and looks fine in my opinion, but is something to be aware of. I recommend editing the mod to remove the code using gamepad direction buttons to change the positions of the items, so you can use them instead to navigate the clock menu (see stickied post in the Posts tab for a guide on how to do this, and if you'd like help with this, let me know!)
- Compatible with Brothers In Arms after running Script Merger (probably the only must have mod!)
- Compatible with font replacers.
- Compatible with Smooth GUI (highly recommended). Just let this mod win any .redswf conflicts. I haven't made any changes to Meditation UI animation speeds to match Smooth GUI, but from playtesting it didn't feel like it needed anything. Please let me know if I missed something.
- This mod makes use of script annotations to reduce merge conflicts, but you should still always run Script Merger!
Localization
- Currently the mod is available in English, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Hungarian, though if anyone would be willing to provide translations for other languages I would love to update the mod to include them!
Installation
- The Tome of Witcher 3 Modding is a great place to start if you are new to the process.
- If you would like to use a mod manager, I would recommend The Witcher 3 Mod Manager. Be sure to run Script Merger to combine script changes from multiple mods.
- If you are installing the mod manually, here is a step by step guide:
- After you've downloaded the mod, extract the downloaded .7z file using 7Zip or WinRAR or another extractor, and open the folder.
- Navigate to your installation of the game at "[your game installation file path]\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY\". You should be able to see a folder named 'Bin'.
- Go back to your extracted copy of the mod and group select the 'Bin' and 'Mods' folders, and drag them into your Witcher 3 install. You should be dragging them into the folder you found in step 2, "[your game installation file path]\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY\" where the base game's 'Bin' folder lives.
- If you've done this correctly, you should have a new folder at "[your game installation file path]\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY\Mods\modalchemyrequiresmeditation", and a file "[your game installation file path]\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY\bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc\modalchemyrequiresmeditation.xml".
- Next, find the file "[your drive name, usually C:]\Users\[your user name]\Documents\The Witcher 3\user.settings" and open it in a text editor.
- Navigate back to the extracted mod and copy the contents of user.settings.part.txt, then paste it at the bottom of the file you found in step 5. Save and close user.settings.
- Repeat the process for the file "[your drive name]\Users\[your user name]\Documents\The Witcher 3\dx12user.settings", copying the contents of dx12user.settings.part.txt from the extracted mod folder to the bottom of the file dx12user.settings. Save and close the file.
- These last two edits were controlling the default settings of my mod, they also will be where you own configuration will be stored.
- Run Menu Filelist Updater so the config menu appears in game.
- Run Script Merger to combine script changes from multiple mods.
- Make sure you have saved all the files you edited, then boot up the game. If you've done everything correctly, you should be able to play with the mod.

Known Issues
- On rare occasion (maybe 1/50 times) Geralt will stand bolt upright as opposed to playing his exit meditation animation. From examing other mods, this also seems to occur for them too (Friendly Meditation and Immersive Meditation). My guess is that this is an animation-driven bug, and I lack the knowledge to fix it currently. I would love to fix this in future (see Future Plans). If you have any ideas on how to fix this, do let me know!
- If playing with the option that resticts alchemy to meditation, the in-game Alchemy tutorial for cooking an item will still appear outside of meditation, but you can't complete it, you just have to close the menu to ignore it. This is relatively minor but something that would be nice to fix, it's just time consuming. I will try to fix this in a later update.
Future Plans
- Implement the missing localizations.
- Make the mod fully compatible with the in-game Alchemy tutorial.
- Fix minor sliding on Geralt's exit meditation animation.
- Fix a rare case of Geralt standing upright instead of playing the exit meditation animation, this looks to be an animation-driven bug, and occurs rarely. With more experience I would love to tackle this.
