Thank you all for your feedback. I have reported this fix again to CDPR. Maybe with all your help to let know about this fix to other people, we will force CDPR to fix this bug properly, without losing image quality.
Im at a loss for words. I came from console been gaming on console my entire life up till over 2 months ago. I invested in a 3080 rig. I just started using mods on pc. I was excited for the witcher 3 next gen update but on my 3080 i was getting crazy fps drops into the high 30 low 40 on dx11 and dx12 even with ray tracing off. Your mods memory leak fix and this rt fix has fixed my issue. I can honestly say this is not a placebo effect. Im getting over 80 fps at native 4k ultra+ on dx11 version and on dx12 im gettting 50 -60 at 1440p with raytracing on ultra. I was dipping in down to 30's with ray tracing before your mods at times and had crazy studder. Bravo im so thankful. You and whoever helped make this possible have my many thanks. Now the game is playable. I considered going back to 1.32 version.
hi there, im playing the game on 2025 with mobile 4090, do i set ForceCustomMipBias to -1.0 or can i try -1.9?? since you mentioned -2 will disable the fix. thank u
The lower the number, the gradually higher the VRAM usage becomes, so you need to reduce this value gradually to ensure that during long gameplay sessions, VRAM usage doesn't reach 95%. If it does, memory starts being offloaded from the GPU to local memory, and that’s what causes massive FPS drops. For your GPU, -1.5 might be enough, but lowering it further will likely diminish the effectiveness of this fix, and -2.0 disables it entirely.
This mod worsens my trees and grass, despite the fact that I did not notice the improvements With mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/images/42376 Without: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/images/42377
Optimization intensity can be adjusted to match your GPU. If the optimization is too high, reduce the number (lower -number -1.0 or 1.5) of ForceCustomMipBias until you reach the best compromise between quality and memory usage.
Thank you! I do feel that my game moves slightly better, on Medium settings (gtx 1050ti - I7-7700HQ) but sometimes there are still some fps drops, is that normal?
For your configuration, it's better to play on version 1.32 of the game, as it is much better optimized. You can still use the same Halk's textures from The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project, which is implemented in the Next-Gen version. However, if you still want to play the latest Next-Gen version (4.04), run the game in DX11 mode, set the graphics to medium, SSR to low, HairWorks to off, and the number of background characters to low. This should provide good enough performance.
No, here, try this .ini settings that I made for version 1.32: [Rendering] EnableCustomMipBias=true TextureMipBias=-0.5 // You can try a lower value like -0.7 or -1.0 for better texture quality. In version 1.32, the settings are slightly different because there is no ForceCustomMipBias option, and the default TextureInFlightBudget value is 128, so it doesn’t need to be changed.
Of course, it's a must-have, but the clarity/sharpness of HDRP NG textures depends on the ForceCustomMipBias= value. Lower -values provide better quality but increase VRAM usage. You need to find the sweet spot for your GPU, ensuring VRAM usage does not exceed 95% in demanding areas like Novigrad, for example.
Sorry to bother but since you have more knowledge then i do i’d like to ask what’s the best ForceCustomMipBias value for my rig (4070 ti & 5700x3d, 1440p)
VRAM usage depends on texture quality, resolution, DLSS settting, FG setting, game location, the length of gameplay and especially RT settings have a significant impact on RAM usage, that's why i cannot tell you best settings for your GPU, you have to find ur sweet spot of MipBias. First test on Ultra texture setting and start from -1.0 MipBias value and if after longer gamplay in Novigrad city, check ur GPU VRAM usage, if it's not exceed 95% then incress MipBias more of -0.2 point to -1.2 and so on till -1.8, then change texture to Ultra+ and again start from -1.0, until you get close to that point—then slightly reduce MipBias or Texture quality to maintain a buffer of free VRAM memory.
Hello can you help me my game dx12 version crashes when i travel to hanged man tree for the first time and i installed this ini file but it still crashes on loading screen
Your crashes are not caused by this mod; you may have other mods that are responsible. You can set textures to Ultra, but with this mod enabled—without any changes to the INI settings—it won’t affect texture quality or sharpness. It's better to stick with High or Ultra and lower the ForceCustomMipBias value, such as -1.0 or slightly higher, but not too close to -2.0, as that is the default Ultra+ setting.
Im still having major memory leak issues, is there anything else I can try, I followed this guide to a T. I just still start experiencing fps loss after about 20 min of play even though my hardware is overkill ill go from 100 plus fps to 40-50 with a 4070ti 32gb of ddr5 and a 7800x3d.
Yes, but better results give you leave it at High and change ForceCustomMipBias to lower - number, for examp. = -1.0, or -1.2 or -1.5, only if still this not satisfying you then set Ultra and again mipbias -1.0 or one of those.
Hitting my head on my desk, for finding this only after started BaW expansion. Finally i don't need to restart the game, i don't have crappy fps after 15 min of game-play. And they say magic doesn't not exist.

nvidia driver 551.23 FXAA on that's now. I've some weird bug that locks me out of individual program settings.
Even before I added the new textures, I had crashes. The mod list is small. I use the witcher 3 mod manager and script merger, original.
Is this the same memory leak? I use a very few texture upgrades. I can get the mod list.
Thanks...

should I add the ini. file anyways on the 1.32 version?

In version 1.32, the settings are slightly different because there is noEnableCustomMipBias=true
TextureMipBias=-0.5 // You can try a lower value like -0.7 or -1.0 for better texture quality.
ForceCustomMipBias
option, and the defaultTextureInFlightBudget
value is 128, so it doesn’t need to be changed.EDIT: Nope. Easy enough to do manually in any case.
