WOTC Update: new version is up, including a separate WOTC version WOTC Update 2: Armor Mod is ready too you can find it here http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom2/mods/664/?
I also added the download with NMM option wich should work judging by other mods file structure, I couldn't find any documentation on it so no garantees^^
Update: Added some key notes if you need to find specific voices in your VC game files Update2: Added preview videos for female and male voices
Hello i just installed these mods. The first time i tried it the voices were loud enough to hear. but then i downloaded the b pack roll and installed it as well after trying out the voices the volume was really low like couldnt hear a thing but when i play other voices i can hear it loud and clear. i tried reinstalling but wouldn't go back to the loud voice.
Sorry I can't really tell if this is caused by the mod itself, it works as it should on the WOTC version for me, I didn't test the non-WOTC version though. If you are playing the WOTC version than use the intended mod version too pls. Shouldn't be a problem for the voice mods but you never know, armormods get borked on the wrong mod version. there also might be a conflict with another mod if there is one messing with modded voice volumes. I only have one Voice Volume Slider in my game.
Is it possible you could get the english voice lines for a mod? I thought about trying it for myself because I couldn't find it and I really wanted it but the steam files for the first game are some odd format I can't work with.
to get the Audiofiles you need: 1. a version of AFS Explorer (I used 3.7) to extract the Files from the "vlvoice.afs" file. 2. Foobar + ADPCM decoders plugin to play and convert the .adx soundfiles. 3. use my spreadsheet in the files section (open with Excel or Calc) to find the character lines for the characters you want. Voicefiles usually come as "701020010.adx" for the japanese line and "701020010_e.adx" for the english version of that line.
What this does If you’ve tried to make an XCOM 2 voice pack, you may have noticed that many voice cues simply do not work. Robojumber’s custom script does three things for the XCOM 2 voice pack maker: Enables most voice cues and offers multiple optional cues that can be used on a mod by mod basis. Gives the mod maker a simpler way to set the voice cues for their mod. Eliminates the need for VoiceBanks and the resultant cleanup of empty packages.
Also. Add a XComGameBoard.ini with this in: [Country_Japan X2CountryTemplate] -Language="english" +Language="japanese"
And the voices will be randomly assigned to Japanese soldiers (and mod-added countries if the language is set to that).
Interesting, I wondered why there was an option to set a language when the game didn't actually tag voices by language.
I don't know if i will implement it, but maybe if I have some time to spare. Voice Packs shouldn't have big issues with WOTC because they don't use shaders but I recompiled them anyway. I will upload soon, I only got around to test it in the Character Customization Screen.
Thx for the link, I will check it out, but most of the work on this mod is finished for me.
Ok I looked into the language thing and it seems easy enough to implement. I might have everything ready tomorrow, if I get to testing a few missions, new soldiers etc. Have to get some screenshots for the Armor mod too so hopefully I get everything done in one go.
you make a voicepack based off a jrpg, which i seriously doubt anyone not acquainted with VC will even pick up, and then worry about it being "too anime"...okay?
also, is an english version possible? weird isnt it, english dubs are usually looked down upon, but i kinda liked the english voices more personally.
I don't 'worry' about 'too anime' I just want to give some options. As I said I made this for myself and on the basis of what I find acceptable for XCOM, given that it lacks japanese voices. Of course there is a bonus for VC fans (including me) but that wasn't the main point for me.
The english voices can be found using the file index I provided in the file section. Its simply indexnumber_e.adx for the same phrase in japanese, though the translation sometimes is more than loose. Though I admid that some of the voices sound better in english (Catherine for example), I didn't play VC with english voices. That said I don't have plans to make a version with english voices given the amount of time that would take (takes about an hour per character, probably longer because I didn't plan for it), but feel free to use my file index to help you find the right voices in the Game Files and make a voice pack with your favorites yourself
Ok, first you will need the following programs: AFSExplorer (I used ver3.7), to extract the adx soundfiles Foobar, with kode54's plugin to play (and convert) CRI ADX files Audacity, if you want to add some radiolike effect to the voices like me
Now, in the VC gamefiles should be to AFS files regarding sounds, one for the sfx one with the voices. You will need some patience with the AFSExplorer because its a little slow but extract all the files so you can check them later if needed. With Foobar(and the plugin) you can now play each adx file and convert the by rightclicking them in foobar (convert to wave if possible) Because you only need to convert the ones you want, you should use the file structure list I made to look up your characters. You can check what each specific character says in each category via the VC wiki. Again you will only need the audiofiles with the indexnumber_e.adx wich are the english dubs. If you have your voice files convert them to wave in Foobar and if needed use Audacity to apply some Filters Now you are ready to make your mod. I suggest that you watch zuffs tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZQrnjRQId0 Xcom 2 Voice Pack Modding Tutorial V2 to teach you the basics (includes audacity filters though I used some different filters for mine). This schould get you started. There is also a Steam group "XCOM 2 Voicepack Modding" with some more information (especially if your mod has very large filesize in the end)
inside data/sound, everything has the file extension .csd...am i in the wrong folder? also for the radio effect, i have audacity but i havent tried using it yet. i heard somewhere though that there is some sort of setting configuration you can put in somewhere that gives it that effect. one last thing so far - the HQ radio lines that sometimes play when you kill an enemy in VC can be found in the game files, right? the lines like "I'm impressed but not surprised" etc also the lines from the barracks or the place you go to recruit units, the ones they say when you recruit them and they introduce themselves?
I have to install it again to check where exactly the files are, I will get back to you on that.
there is a small tutorial for an audacity effect in the video I recommended, though i looked up some other radio effect videos and tried out a few settings before i got what I wanted.
HQ Radio lines I filed under Story, they are between index 504******_e.adx and 599*******_e.adx, the line you wanted is at 5990010000_e.adx. All the Town/HQ lines should be under the Town/HQ categories, except for some story parts. Introductions are under Roster In/Out, they follow a slightly different order of characters than the other files I think, you can check the wiki if you are not sure you got the right character (under Exit/Enter Squad 7).
i have the wierdest issue with my modbuddy...ill try to explain it.
when i start the modbuddy, the words dont load, they dont update onto the window. if i minimize it or ctrl+alt+delete and then reopen it, it'll load. when i try to make a new mod, and am shown the window with the templates on it, they dont have the icons at the end of them. and the whitish box that appears on each of the options as you hover your mouse over them? nope. unless i ctrl+alt+delete and then exit that screen(since i cant minimize it then) same when i try to change the name, when i click on the window, nothing happens. ctrl+alt+del and then i cant type or delete anything. well, i can, but the changes wont show unless i ctrl+alt+del then the stuff like the mod file on the side and other stuff wont pop up into the modbuddy. ctrl+alt+del
and on and on and on...also the editor wont launch.
Yes the _e. files are the english ones and yeah I meant .wav sry.
For the SDK/ModBuddy problem, you might be missing something for it to start/be usable correctly, there is a Quickstart guide you might want to check in /XCOM 2 SDK/Documentation folder, there are also some youtube videos regarding the first time setup.
okay, i dug around a little more, ended up on the steam discussions for xcom 2, and found a solution. it only makes the editor launch, does nothing to the ctrl+alt+del problem, but for my purposes i guess i can continue work now
wierd, it works fine on my end, also on win10. Do you run steam as admin? I'm not really sure if I did more then install the two redistributables from the quick start guide, you will need .net framework I believe, there is an istaller in the XCOM2SDK/_CommonRedist folder as well as for Visual C++. I personally have .net Framework 4.5.
there are some deviations yes, rosie has 5 kill lines i think(3 variations of kisses^^), but mostly they follow the same pattern. For example i wouldn't have been surprised if Edy had more lines, her being the tsundere fanservice, but she has her own dlc so she follows the pattern. The wiki is pretty helpfull with those things mostly. Edit: Keep in mind that they have only a few Voice Actors on english Voiceovers so there might be some voices that sound similar
one last question out of laziness. ive finally got myself a ton of free time, and spent the first week of it playing videogames, so now im a little bored, so going back to this might be nice i want to know all of the voice lines ill have to get clips for the ones i know are: - blue move - yellow move (stealthed and not) - shooting - hitting no armor - hitting armor - missing - killing - throwing damage-dealing nade - throwing smoke - throwing flash - using heavy weapon? - overwatching - suppressing - seeing enemy(stealthed and not) - healing - healing with gremlin - other gremlin support abilities - hacking - enemy reinforcements - flanked by enemy - hit by enemy - killed by enemy - panic start - panic continue
all i can think off the top of my head right now, what did i miss?
yes i know i dont have to find a proper clip for all of these. a lot of the mods i know just use variations of "yes" for a lot of the lines, just making sure of whats ahead of me
Sorry for the late reply, here you go: You will see in this list every sound I set a cue to play for. As yu can see I have only a few different cues/categories of sounds that will roughly fit that particular sound object for example: I set Alert to the spot.cue which contains all the sounds that will fit spotted enemies or maybe outcries of surprise. hope this helps
sorry for my late reply. computer was broke for a full month. anyways, i started to job 2 weeks ago, and am really busy nowadays. i plan to quit after some time and maybe go for a part-time job instead, but this is just 2 weeks in so who knows. anyways, this little project is put into suspended animation for a while, but the project files will stay.
hope you find some time to continue your project. If you have any more questions just ask. Also I may or may not be working on a Valkyria Chronicles Armors port for XCom 2, I started with the Females, though I would probably only release it if I had the male options too. But well lets see how my free time goes^^
Hope you get back to finishing an English pack some time. I love Valkyria and I think the characters were all interesting and I felt more invested in them as individuals than I do for XCOM soldiers
I started working on English voicepacks for VC myself... I've extracted and converted to wav all the voices, and sorted them all by topic and then by speaker, and subfoldered the sounds used to address specific people (like healing or helping a squadmate by name).
I'll be working on the ModBuddy part as time permits, but I haven't had much success before with building the solution.
Also, I really hope you do convert the VC armor for XCOM2... would be friggin fantastic.
Sorry to spam your topic. Just updating -- I got all the files sorted and renamed, applied 'telephone' curve filter to all the files, got each character's sounds all added to their own UDK, got soundbank and voice, and got the ini.
hm, i had to make them louder to raise them to the same level as the default soldiers. they are the same level in my game, are they louder than your default voices? I don't know if there are seperate volume sliders for mods and default voices though..

If you do update this for WoTC (heard conflicting reports about whether voice packs actually need it) then maybe look at this too -

Also. Add a XComGameBoard.ini with this in:

let me know if you need any help with the gamefiles or conversion of the audio format.
Good Luck
like the only thing i have is pretty much the VC game and the XCOM 2 dev tools. dont even have any modding experience here

vlbgm.afs ....is the music if you want the soundtrack
vlvoice.afs ....are the voices

hope you find some time to continue your project. If you have any more questions just ask.
Also I may or may not be working on a Valkyria Chronicles Armors port for XCom 2, I started with the Females, though I would probably only release it if I had the male options too. But well lets see how my free time goes^^
I'll be working on the ModBuddy part as time permits, but I haven't had much success before with building the solution.
Also, I really hope you do convert the VC armor for XCOM2... would be friggin fantastic.
Now just need to create the sound cues for each.
Thank you!
thanks for telling me, i didn't even notice
I set it to unlisted, hope it works now
I noticed something, the voices are too loud, it hurts my ears when i preview them :[
they are the same level in my game, are they louder than your default voices?
I don't know if there are seperate volume sliders for mods and default voices though..
