I really appreciate you taking the time to make this! Unfortunately, it isn't working for me. I own it on Steam, so skipped one of the .EXEs like the other commenter, but it doesn't fix the flickering. I've tried for hours to find different fixes but I can't seem to make it work. Any help appreciated!
Weird, I don't know how to help you in this case, but I know that by installing an older Nvidia driver from November or earlier, it could work. Apparently, for some users, it did work, but without trying this solution, I don't know how to help you because I've also tried all kinds of methods, and the problem is that you've probably already done that too
No problem - and thanks for sharing this fix. For the record: the first time I encountered this "flickering/jittering" issue was, ironically enough, when I tried to use DXVK (2.5) with AC2. That was around December 2024, I was a couple version behind the latest available Nvidia driver. Today, after having updated my drivers - boom, unplayable. It's worth noting that, in my testing, only the version you provided worked (1.3.3). I tested DXVK 2.4, 2.5 and 2.1 and the flickering was still here.
TLDR - your fix works perfectly finew with the latest Nvidia drivers, just make sure to use the version provided (1.3.3). Rolling back your drivers or disabling Game Filters should also work.
your the best thing to walk this planet ive been trying for 4+ hours to get this thing to work i asked my friends ive searched everything but no solution i followed your steps and Boom it worked first try, it fixed my assassins creed 2 AND my assassins creed brotherhood. its my first time playing brotherhood so and im excited to play, thank you so so very much
Thanks for this fix, DXVK actually improved stability as well. Just something to note, using ALT+Z for the Nvidia overlay causes a VRAM leak, slowing the FPS down to 1.
On that note, this issue has been occuring ever since Nvidia updated their drivers - this issue is caused when using the ingame overlay/game filters from the NVIDIA app. Multi-billion dollar company, breaking old games. And people say AMD drivers are bad, yet Nvidia gets away with this. Disabling the in game overlay and game filters fixes this as well, but your fix improves stability on Intel CPUs, so this is a win-win
How do you disable the overlay and filters for a specific game? For me the old AC games arent even recognised by the driver anymore, so they dont show up in the Nvdia app or control panel.
In any case, some people have it. That being said, it doesn’t really concern you then—you probably have an older Nvidia graphics card or an AMD one. Personally, I have an RTX 4060, and the issue occurs. On the Ubisoft support forums, there are a few others with the same graphics card experiencing the same problem. It seems to be caused by the new drivers for the 4000 series.
I cannot thank you enough. I recently came across this issue and it makes the game completely unplayable. Tried all the fixes online regarding compatibility settings and locking framerate etc, but nothing worked. Your fix finally did it. Im on steam so I dont have the AssassinsCreedII.exe in my install folder so I simply skipped that step. And I set the windowed launch option in steam instead of ubisoft connect.
This fix also works on AC Brotherhood which was suffering from the same issues.
Again, thank you so much for sharing this fix.
Any idea what is causing the issue? I was able to play the games without issues a couple of months ago. Is it driver related?
Proud to hear that your game is back to normal! Glad it worked. I was really the only one troubleshooting this issue, and I finally succeeded—I'm really happy because we were all in the same boat. I tried contacting Ubisoft, but they didn't even help. I had to figure things out on my own. They just told me to disable screen optimization and set the game to compatibility mode, but that didn’t work, and neither did the launch argument. Maybe DXVK is doing the job. I applied the other tweaks just in case.
I think this problem comes from the new Nvidia drivers. Someone was able to fix the issue by installing an older driver from November, and it worked for him. Ubisoft told me to do the same, but I didn’t want to because I don’t want my graphics card to be outdated just because of this issue. I want everything to be up to date for the latest games. So, I didn’t listen to them.
With pleasure! I hope this solved your problem. It drove me crazy too until I managed to fix it. I shared it with you because I was so determined and just couldn’t take it anymore. I’ve been working on it for 5 days, just to tell you! I learned that I wasn’t the only one having this issue, and I understand the frustrations of other players, including myself.

Simply disable those in Geforce Experience, if you are still using that, or in Nvidia App and the game will work properly.

Une bonne journée à toi et merci l'ami ;)

You have to disable it in the NVIDIA App when you wanna play the Ezio games
