⚠️ NOTICES BEFORE YOU CONTINUE ⚠️

1.) This mod is only supported on games updated to Patch 7 or newer. Attempts to use this mod on earlier patches can lead to unforeseeable issues. Please do not submit any bugs reports if you are using this mod on a patch earlier than Patch 7.

2.) This mod is a Nexus mirror of a mod available within the official Baldur's Gate 3 mod manager. You can install this mod in-game by either searching "Adjustable Party Limit" within the in-game mod manager, or you can click this link to see the official mirror from within your browser.

What is the party limit?

The "party limit" refers to the maximum amount of characters you are allowed to have in your party. This mod let's you change that number.

Why use this mod, and not other party limit extenders?

It's true that there are already quite a few other party limit extender mods such as Party Limit Begone, Aether's No Party Limits, and Configurable Party Limit. While those mods are each great in their own right, and you may still want to think about using them depending on what you want, Adjustable Party Limit has some unique features that no other party limit extender mod has ever had up to the time of writing this. Because of these unique features, I think you may want to consider this mod over other party limit extenders:

a.) This mod does not require Script Extender, nor does it require you to make changes to your data folder. It can be installed like a normal mod with no extra steps required.

b.) This mod is the first party limit extender mod with built-in ways to prevent you from encountering some of the most infamous party limit extender bugs, such as the Act 1 lake boat bug and the long resting bug. More details on these fixes are in a later section.

c.) This mod does not just unlock the party limit, but allows you to set the limit to a specific number of your choosing. (This feature is not exclusive to this mod, and is also present in Configurable Party Limit, but that mod lacks the two other features above.)

Please note that this mod does not change the number of human players you can have in multiplayer sessions. If you would like that functionality, please continue to rely on Party Limit Begone.

What are these "infamous" bugs you're referring to?

There are two well known base game bugs that trigger when you attempt to take certain actions with more than four party members, both of which bork your game when they happen. While it is not possible to completely "fix" these bugs with Osiris scripting, this mod does completely prevent you from triggering the following bugs, even if you were actively trying to:

The Act 1 Lake Boat Bug

If you attempt to take the lake boat to the d*****r camp while you have more than four party members, every party member over the fourth will permanently turn invisible and also exhibit some other strange behaviors. Adjustable Party Limit includes comprehensive checks to make absolute sure you cannot interact with the boat if you are in a state that would potentially trigger the bug.

The Long Resting Bug

In some instances, long resting while there are more than four active party members can cause the party to not exit the "sleeping" state when a long rest ends. While there are some actions players can take to try and break out of this state, they do not work consistently. Adjustable Party Limit will prevent you from long resting if you have more than four party members. A future version of this mod will also include a spell that will allow you to trim your party down to four members in a single action!

Compatibility?

Adjustable Party Limit is completely compatible with essentially all mods, except other party limit extender mods. Other "party limit extender" mods are mods such as:

Party Limit Begone
Aether's No Party Limits
Configurable Party Limit
• etc.

This is because the mod is purely additive. It does not override absolutely anything from the base game or other mods.

Also keep in mind, as stated at the top of the page, this mod is only compatible with Patch 7 or newer.

How to use the mod.

⚠️ NOTE: There are in-game pop-ups that also guide you through using the mod. Reading this section is completely optional. ⚠️

1.) First, you need to enable the togglable passive that will be added to your character the first time you load a save with this mod enabled. If you're playing with a keyboard and mouse, you can find this in the "passive" section of your hotbar (the same place you enable/disable non-lethal attacks). If you're on controller, you'll need to find the passive in one of your action wheels. If you want to know what the passive looks like, check this mod page's "images" section.

2.) Once enabled, you will get four new spells in your hotbar. You will want to start by using one of the spells with an up or down arrow to change a value called the "UNSET LIMIT." Changing the UNSET LIMIT will not change your ACTUAL max party size, but it will prepare you to change it in the next step.

3.) After you set the UNSET LIMIT to the maximum party size you want, cast the spell with the tools icon to change the ACTUAL party size to the UNSET LIMIT. Be aware that when you do this, for technical reasons the game needs to stun you for six seconds for the new party limit to apply. Once you come out of stun, you're finished!

Is this mod safe to uninstall?

Yes, this mod is completely safe to uninstall! However, there is an ideal way to go about it. When you enable the mod's togglable passive that was mentioned in the last section, one of the spells added to your character will be an uninstaller spell. This spell will allow you to perform a "clean" uninstall, even though you technically don't need it. For more details on how to use the uninstaller, check the spell's description in-game.

Future plans?

There are two things I definitively plan on doing next.

Finishing work on a complimentary difficulty mod called "Tactician Enhanced"

A problem shared by all party limit extender mods is the fact that pushing your party past four members seriously ruins the game's balance. There are mods to remedy this, but there are no non-SE mods that allow the game's difficulty to automatically increase as your party gets larger. I aim to fix that! Releasing sometime this month, Tactician Enhanced is a new difficulty adjustment mod that will allow you to give enemies extra hitpoints, actions, and bonus actions. You will also be able to make it so the amounts of each resource enemies get increases automatically as your party gets larger! Every setting in the mod will be fully customizable, so you can play with whatever you feel is balanced. The mod will most likely release in the first half of this month (September 2024), so check this page every few days to see if it has been released yet.

Updating Adjustable Party Limit to add a spell that allows you to automatically trim the party down to four members

I want to add this feature to make it less annoying to reduce your party size down to four before you long rest. You can expect this feature to be added soon after I release Tactician Enhanced!

EDIT: This feature was added early for the sake of fixing a bug! v2.2.0.0 and beyond will now let you do this!

This section will be updated as I complete each task, so check back here every couple of days to see if this section has changed!

"I would like to report a bug."

I encourage you to report any bugs you experience with this mod! However, there are some steps I highly encourage you to take before you start reporting bugs.

• See if you can reproduce the bug.
• Ensure that the bug you're experiencing is actually caused by this mod. Try testing in a game with no other mods.
• If you're game is failing to launch, try deleting %localappdata%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\modsettings.lsx. This mod will NEVER cause your game to fail to launch, but other mods potentially could, and you need to clean out both your mods folder and delete that file to get things working again.
• Get screenshots or a video of the bug if possible, those are always super helpful!

"I want to port this mod to a different language."

That's awesome! If you are willing to port the mod, I would love for there to be different versions of this mod with support for other languages. However, if you want to port this mod, you MUST get my permission first. So long as you ask I will very likely say yes, but any re-uploads of this mod that I have not approved (whether on Nexus or another platform) will be taken down.
