I know, its a very minor improvement (especially comparing to Miraculous Dyes and Tools, which is duh miraculous). but astrologers proclaimed the week of dye mods, so I can't stand aside.

P.S. Colby, thank you kindly for your generous donation! <3

    CHANGE LOG
1.01 - added Izzli's Pigments and Tinctures support, added Lite version without brush tag over dye icons. Warning - please don't forget to update your Better Inventory UI (+addon) and Better Various Widgets (if you have those installed).
1.1 - added controllers support. pads version:
    1) increases grid (from 6x5 to 10x5)
    2) makes combining faster (from 0.6s to 0.1s)
    3) allows to combine given dye with armor parts without leaving widget (to change dye you still need to re-open widget).
    4) widget shifted to the left to allow seeing paperdoll, background changed to remove shroud over paperdoll - you will be able to see color changes on your character now.

    1.11 - updated for HF #16 (combine_c.xaml).
1.12 - forwarded latest changes in Faerun Colors mod to Full version of Better Dyeing.

1.13 - update for Faerun Colors again (full version only).
1.14 - updated icons atlases for latest version of Miraculous Dyes and Tools, removed full compatibility with Faerun Colors. sorry about last one: mod's author prefer me "not to interfere with their assets", but I have no better solution than altering atlases. Faerun Colors will work, you just won't see brush tag over dyes icons.
1.15 - added Character Themed Dyes dyes icons support.
1.16 - updated Color Presets As Dyes tagged icons (former Character Themed Dyes), well, name only actually.
1.17 - updated TC Dyes tagged icons.
    1.18 - forwarded patch #6 changes.
1.19 - added Psychotter's Goth Dyes support (both dark and bright versions).
1.21 - added P4 NPC and Outfit Inspired Dyes support.
1.22 - fixed wrong color presets in some vanilla dyes (kudos to Hermitpriest for pointing to this issue).
1.23 - add Disastrous Dyes support.
1.24 - full version got update with new dyes from Disastrous DyesIzzli's Pigments and Tinctures and NPC and Outfit Inspired Dyes. Mind, please, I haven't tested changed atlases myself with patch #6, I'm working on updating mods for patch 7.
1.2.5 - updated for Patch 7. Full version with custom dyes support is pending ofc, until situation with dyes update will be clear.
    1.2.9 - updated for patch 8.

Since updating everything for patch 8 something isn't quite right. I'm not getting the updated icons for dyes and I have to right click on the dye each time I want to use it, as opposed to being able to just drop another clothing item into the already open window. Worked fine on patch 7 but I can't work out what I've done wrong for patch 8.

I do not have the issue with right clicking, and functionality is unaffected... however I do have the same issue regarding the icons having been reverted to the original icon, weirdly enough the brush icon from Better Inventory mod is also gone. This does not happen for the General Drake dye from the DLC (as in, it keeps the brush icon). No mod order change either. As anyone figured this out by chance?

I'm missing the brush icons too. I've tried playing with Vortex load orders and disabling mods etc but nothing seems to have worked so far.

If you're using all of Caites other mods (minus the trade one, may it rest in peace) then disable the widgets mod. I'm having the same issue and found that Better Dyes will not work at all while Better Various Widgets is active. I'm 99% positive my load order is correct with BD being below BVW, with BIUI being below that, and BIUIAO below that with every other Better mod loaded above those. This is only a partial fix however as the special dye icons are not appearing on any dyes aside from the one you get in the camp chest at the start of the game.

If anyone knows what the exact issue is please drop a reply. I have little experience with this stuff and have been tearing my hair out all day trying to get Caites mods to work properly post patch 8. Had no issues patch 7 and I refuse to play BG3 without his mods. I've read and reread the descriptions on his mod pages and checked posts to see if I've overlooked something he said, which is still likely given how much there is to sift through, but for today I am pretty much defeated.

I can't replicate issues you are talking about.

Here is a screen from my full suite installed, I don't see anything unexpected. Vanilla icons are replaced and have a tag, modded don't have a brush ('Faerun Colors' in this case), like it should be with Better Dyeing Lite - which is the only supported version currently. Reworked widget works properly.

Make sure you have proper load order (better anything -> better various widgets -> better dyeing -> better inventory UI) and addon for better inventory installed (unofficial one, from nexus).

Ok i've done a complete uninstall/wipe/purge of all files to remove any residual that may have been present. The following load order works fine and everything displays as expected (extra new mini icons etc):

      1) ImpUI
      2) BetterInvUI
      3) AddonBetterInvUI

However, on adding Better Dyes, either at load order position 2 or 4, the icons still don't change (although the paintbrush has appeared on the Drake General dye). I do, however, have the correct functionality (I can dye multiple things without having to right click on the dye each time). I will continue to add the other mods to check they all work as expected. I'm at a loss to explain why Dye icons don't change.

Edit: Having installed all the other mods I can happily confirm they are performing as expected (as they always do) but Dyes icons are being stubborn. All I can do is thank you for your time and support on these amazing mods, they really do change the game for the better in so many ways.

If you happen to think of a reason why my dye icons aren't changing i'm all ears!

vanilla dyes new icons are on addon for better inventory UI side (unofficial one), all except general drake, which is on better inventory UI side. tags for vanilla dyes are also on better inventory UI side. better inventory UI should be dead last 'better' mod.

better dyeing doesn't currently have any icons or tags (used to have ones for modded dyes in the past). it affects combine widget only, its position, logic and how it looks like.

Oops sorry for the icon source misunderstanding. Sadly, that still doesn't resolve the fact I don't get the new icons, regardless of which way round I have the BetterInvUI mods.

Doh! No. I was using 1.2.9 because I probably got caught up in the post patch upgrade frenzy. I've reverted to 1.2.8 and surprise, surprise, everything is working as expected.

Thank you ever so much for your patience in helping resolve this and I can confirm you were right, the issue was on my side!

So yeah the issue with the icons was indeed a case of the wrong add-on (it had auto-updated to the official version from the unofficial). However, after a clean install of the game, purging all my mods and redownloading them, double and triple checking I have the correct load order, I was still having issues with being able to dye multiple times without repeatedly needing to reopen the dye. I turned off every mod and by itself Better Dying works as intended. When turning on only Better Dying and Better Various Widgets it stops working correctly. When both are on, I have BD below BVW in load order and while the dyes don't deplete, I still have to reopen the dye for each item. I also made sure the dye is in my inventory and not in a container as that seemed to be an issue for another user. Turning all my mods on and leaving BVW turned off, Better Dying works properly. As I said before, this wasn't an issue for me with patch 7 and I am pretty sure I never even touched load order back then. Guess I was just extremely lucky everything worked like it should. My issue seems to be unique to me though and I don't have the technical knowhow to understand what I am doing wrong, so for now I'll just be keeping BVW turned off. It's unfortunate, I love all of Caites mods and view them as integral, but it is what it is. For now anyways. Literally spent all day yesterday trying to figure this out. I'll try again tomorrow.

I can't replicate it. Better Various Widgets won't affect Better Dyeing at all if above it in load order, combine widget will be completely replaces by one from Better Dyeing. depleting of vanilla dyes depends on Better Dyeing, it makes all of them reusable. opening combine menu by double-clicking the dye will keep it open after every dyeing (dragging equipment to free slot and pressing button), widget won't be closed on successful dyeing.

Yeah Idk. At this point I'm at a complete loss. My load order is exactly as I read it should be on your compatibility mod page:

      0) Two locked audio dialogue fix mods that can't be moved
      1) ImpUI - Slim for patch 8
      2) Better Anything (Pretty much every single one of your mods)
      3) Better Various Widgets
      4) Better Dying
      5) Better Inventory UI
      6) Better Inventory UI Unofficial Addon

~Note that your mods are the only interface mods I use.

To attempt solving this I've tried moving around and switching up the load order just in case. Every other function for BD and BVW seems to work when both are active. The only thing that doesn't work is the ability to keep drag and dropping gear to dye in the combine panel. The panel opens to the right of the character menu and stays open after use like it should but the gear slot greys out with the piece I just dyed remaining in it, thus forcing me to close the panel and re-double click the dye for dying another item.

Like I said before, this seems to be a problem unique to me so it's fine. While I don't want to, I can live without BVW, or even just keep playing with that single issue. Maybe someday I'll figure out what the problem is. It would be my luck that the problem has an easy fix that I keep overlooking, but I'd rather not waste anymore of your time on this. Thank you for these wonderful mods and your hard work.

      Hi all (e.g. @stephenince and @NullSecFodder)

I appear to have found a solution - all you need to do is put Better Dyeing lowest in your load order of all the UI mods (or at least below Better Various Widgets, as per your theory) and it will allow you to dye items multiple times again.

      Hope this helps!

Edit: For those who are experiencing issues, use the following load order suggested by the mod author: better anything -> better various widgets -> better dyeing -> better inventory UI. Rearranging it in this way fixed the issue with not being able to dye items multiple times.

bejonsson, please, avoid giving misleading suggestions about things you don't understand, I usually block for this. Better Inventory UI should be lower on LO. Load order I provided above is correct, if combine widget doesn't work as expected with it, its issues in user's side - outdated versions or load order not exported/deployed.

Hi Caites, it wasn't my intention to mislead anyone or make you frustrated - I missed your recommendation earlier in thread and only saw comments from those who could not make Better Dyeing work. I've now updated my post to reflect the correct load order.

I'm currently running into a "some mods are redundant" message in Vortex with 1.2.9. When I click that alert in Vortex, it does not show what file is loading over it. I've uninstalled all of my mods, deleted folders to revert my game back to stock, verified files, and have loaded into the game to ensure that no in-game mod manager mods are still lingering. 1.2.5 seems to behave fine. 1.2.9 always says it's a redundant mod.

Apologies, it's working with other armor, but for some reason when using Dye Remover on Simple Boots (at least) it doesn't update on the character model, I have to un-equip and re-equip for it to visually change. For all I know this could be a vanilla bug, my bad!

Hey there! I discovered and installed through the in-game mod manager thing but it doesn't seem to be working for me. I play on a computer, but with a controller. I was absolutely stoked by the idea of seeing the paper doll in the controller U1 (and not having to click out to see what the dyed armor looks like) but I'm still seeing the same thing as your "Vanilla controller U1" screenshot shows. Is there something I need to do differently for the paper doll to show up on the controller U1? Is it because I downloaded it through the game instead of through nexus or mod.io?

      1) no clue what is "controller U1".
      2) doesn't matter where you downloaded it.
      3) keep it below Better Various Widgets on load order if you have it installed (via BG3MM or just install it after BVW).

I meant Controller UI (not U1). Just a typing error. I don't have Better Various Widgets installed. Not sure why I'm not getting the results shown in the pictures. Any advice welcome. Thanks! Love the idea of this and hope I can get it to work!

    Hi,
I'm not sure how both mod work and what files they use etc, but what about the compatibility between "Distinctive Dyes" and "Better Dyeing" ?
Anyone could tell me if it will break something ?

Note: I did the tutorial during EA but it will be my 1st real Playthrough soon, I'm actually preparing some mods.
Most of them are QoL but some, like "Distinctive Dyes", are about stuff that I wasn't able to try before, that why I'm looking for some help and confirmation that I'm not doing a mistake to use both or not. ^^

If anyone can help, thanks ^^
And a big Thank to you Pavelk for sharing with us all this great work, Kudos <3

I don't know where you got the idea better dyeing and distinctive dyes might be incompatible. distinctive dyes is basically new icons for vanilla dyes. it also de-facto included in my other mod, better inventory ui.

Hô, Thanks for your quick answer !
On top of that you just answered a question I had in mind, and so I don't need to use Distinctive Dyes in fact, even more simple.
I read carefully each mod page, but it seems that I miss this info ^^'

I'm not in modding since a very long time now but back in the days I had some issue with UI/HUD mods because of icons, as weird as is sound it was a thing, and I'm somehow stuck in my old knowledge from old games who wasn't as well made as BG3 ;)

Thanks again for answering me so quickly, you did an amazing job with all theses Mods

Is anyone else having issues with this feature:
it allows consequent dyes without opening/closing panel

This no longer works for me when installed via the in game manager.

I just saw the warning about load order with Better Various Widgets. I'll see if that is my issue.

Ok I'm confused, is the paperdoll preview part where you can see what it will look like before you dye only for console/controllers? Because the mod seems to be working fine except I can't get that part to show up and it's what I was most looking forward to. I've gone through other posts and I know I have everything set up correctly, this is strangely the only mod I've ever had trouble with so I'm wondering if I'm just dumb and I was never meant to see the paperdoll "preview" screen in the first place. On PC.

Folks, I see comments that this isn't working. Please remember that before Patch 7 most of these mods were overrides and worked via "magic" for us. Now there is some management involved on our end.

In the Caites section of BG3mm I put 4 mods in this order and now Dyeing is Better again.
    Better Various Widgets
    Better Inventory UI
    AddonBetterInventoryUI
    Better Dying

And because the prerequisites for Better Dying mention Mark Books as Read Support, I downloaded Mark Books as Read and put it in the section with all my Script Extender Stuff. Can't hurt.

Pavelk, If this isn't accurate, please let me know and I'll edit/delete

MBAR isn't a prerequisites, mod will work without it, just books won't be marked when duh read. inventory ui or addon position relatively to better dyeing doesn't matter.

better dyeing below BVW if you need combine widget from better dyeing, that's all.

Like almost everything thanks to P7, this isn't working. Agony. I just want to play the game with my mods handled through vortex again instead of the game itself constantly trying to interfere with stuff now and breaking over and over.

I've tried BG3MM to worse results. Vortex has been more consistent for me in the past and in this current patch, but even with it a lot of mods are just not working for reasons I cannot figure out no matter how I look into things. No idea how P7 is playable for anyone.
