If you experience crashes or out-of-VRAM warnings, lower PoolSizeVRAMPercentage inside the .ini from 95 to 85. Users still control other graphics settings normally from the menu.

If the game is to bright for you:  Simply remove the "r.Lumen.GlobalIllumination=1" line from the Engine.ini and save it.

To remove it if your PC can't handle this at all, simply delete the Engine.ini

Again, it is different for everyone depending on your settings in-game also.  I do not have issues and neither do most people here.

I have the GameUserSettings.ini file in the specified folder. Should the Engine.ini file be located next to it? Do I need to change anything in GameUserSettings.ini?

The Engine .ini is specified where it goes in the description.

If I follow your instructions, the engine.ini file is deleted as soon as the game is started.

You have to make the file read only.

Is there anything to see apart from the huge drop in framerate?
(I removed the sharpening effect from engine.ini so I can focus on what the rest of the file actually does.)

In the image you send there is a serious quality improvement.. Bit concerned if you cant see it, Textures are sharper, More foliage, higher foliage desity markeply less jagadness, Sharper, Cleaner, Better lighting.. And this is just with a still image.

thats blatantly exaggerated and more foliage? the ini doesnt even have settings to increase foliage amount mate and if you mean LOD distance that setting has no effect on the 2 locations in the ss....^^

I have higher end system 9850X3D/5090 and honestly these .ini tweaks don't seem to have much tangible in-game affect. I got rid of the over sharpening and global illumination as I found those to be not a net positive. /shrug

    You say it goes: AppData\Local\Sandfall\Saved\Config
But don't Engine.ini's usually go one folder deeper into \Windows?

Yep, needs to go in Windows and set to READ ONLY.

Delete the Engine.ini from where you put it. Also read the description it says how to fix the crashing if your computer can't handle it by lowering the pool size in the .ini. Also the pinned comment above here.

Вот в чем проблема, после того как я закинул ini файл в папку сохранения и зашел в игру, настройки из него применились, но сам файл якобы исчез, его больше нет, галочка на скрытые файлы стоит в разделе "вид"

You got boosted framerate? Should be lower because of the settings xD. But I am happy haha!

Yeah, I don't quite know why either, maybe your settings gave the CPU more utility? I have a 5090 and 9800x3D. But either way, I'm certain I changed to no other settings and the game definitely looks better, so I'm extra happy it runs way better too lol

i can't seem to find the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Sandfall\Saved\Config\Windows to put the Engine.ini file. i have the game through steam and have done a Engine.ini file mod before on FFXVI and oblivion remastered, but Expedition 33 doesn't seem to be in the same folder as the other games.

You don't have to find it, I told you where it is. AppData\Local\Sandfall\Saved\Config - which is under your username
AppData is HIDDEN  -- If you do not have "Show hidden/files folders" enabled in Folder Option - AppData will not show.

I don't suppose there is a way to force the grass and small foliage to cast shadows?  Probably not, but man, that would do a lot for outdoor areas.  I don't get why developers skimp on this detail so often.  Like...some of us notice it, and a field of grass lit up by light bounces and all this fancy ray-traced crap doesn't look anything close to good when none of the grass casts any shadows.  i know the engine is capable of it, and graphics hardware has been able to pull this off for a long time.  It's the strangest design choice that happens over and over and over in games.  Consistent shadowing does more for how a game looks than a lot of other graphical flourishes.
