If you'd like to access all the equipment quickly, you can use an in-game Cheat Code at the Firelink Handmaid by performing the "Point Forward > Point Down > Bow" gestures in front of her. In order to gain souls to level up or buy these items, perform the previous gestures and then "Look Skyward".
Why does my FPS dip or why is the lightning different?
Ashes experiments with changing the visuals in all areas. You can disable and change this if you're uncomfortable with it or if it causes bugs. To do this go to \AshesLauncher\Ashes\GraphicPresets and click on Enable Vanilla.cmd.
- Fidelity is for highest quality and needs to have shadows enabled in-game. - Performance is the same as fidelity but prioritizes performance and FPS - Vanilla is the lowest setting and focuses on vanilla lightning.
Why does the launcher sometimes not work for updates?
There's the legacy support of an update and a launcher support.
The legacy support version does NOT work with the launcher, you simply unpack the files and launch the game according the _readme instructions. This version is much smaller in filesize because it doesn't come with a .git folder.
The launcher support version does work with the launcher. This version will automatically update when accompanied with the launcher if new versions are available. You need to download this version to also get rid of the zlib error you might get with the launcher.

Thank you for all the support for Ashes so far! If you are interested in being part of our journey and engage actively with our development team, please visit theOfficial Ashes Discord server! Ashes is compatible with some mods that do not affect gameplay, such as Reshade and Wex Dust. It is NOT compatible with mods that do affect gameplay, including Cinders, Watchdog, and others.
The launcher that i installed from the github link won't work at all, as after i installed the mod overnight, and came back, and tried to start the launcher once more, it never fails to stop responding the moment the window pops up. any help on this?
to clarify: i tried it again after doing it like 5 times and it worked for some reason this time, but now i have a second question, the fps unlock/borderless windowed mod doesnt seem to work in tandem with this mod, and im wondering if this is just a mistake on my part or an incompatibility i missed
Borderless and fps unlock should work in tandem with the mod. However, fps unlock causes bugs and glitches for any dark souls 3 version, even vanilla. One of the common ones is that your character will often sprint significantly slower when bumping into walls or enemies.
Is there a lantern or some item that produces light? I killed an NPC who had some kind of lantern/that glowing thing from Demon's Souls while I was exploring the undead settlement. I'm currently in love with this mod, but I'm finding it a bit difficult to navigate the map in some really dark areas.
Yes, it's called the crystal lantern. We also allowed more weapons to produce light and work as a torch. The torch itself was also significantly buffed to work as a proper offhand and shield.
Thanks bro. Also, I was trying to join the discord server but I'm having some problems with the invitation. Anyway, thanks for the awesome mod. Definitely the best I've ever played. c:
I'd recommend suggesting this in #feedback-suggestions if you want an alternate version of lothric knight straight sword. If it's highly voted on, I'll see what I can do.
Thanks for your reply! Emmm, I don't know how to do. I just seemed to see the straight sword's unique action in a video introducing this mod, which is the reason I download it. Anyway, I like this mod!
Thanks for the feedback! Chaos Arrows were redesigned to be powerful within lock-on range rather than long-distance sniping tools. If they worked for both, there wouldn’t be much reason to use Feather Arrows.
Since Fire Arrows were turned into Chaos Arrows, they now hit hard and leave behind chaotic lava. If they still behaved like the vanilla version, they’d be completely overpowered.
Right now, Feather Arrows are meant for long-range sniping, while Chaos Arrows are all about high damage in close-to-mid-range fights.
It's the opposite for me. All the gimmicky new weapons made this fight way more fun. I do think that deacons are somewhat too tanky though, but I wouldn't say it makes it worse than the snooze-fest we got in vanilla. To each their own, I guess.
Can you be more specific what you dislike about the changes? Unlike vanilla, we made it so killing the deacons gives souls and even refills your estus flasks.
everything. you make enemies too powerfull. they hit like truck are very fast very agressive, they stun you easilly and they heal to max hp . and they have too much absorb. i have zweihander +9 and no damage. you make every enemy faster with much more health yet you dont balance it with character
I get that the changes might not be for everyone, and I appreciate the feedback! Just to clarify a few things:
The Deacons of the Deep boss itself hasn’t been buffed in terms of health or absorption, and it does not heal back to full health.
The deacon minions are actually weaker overall, not stronger:
Fat Deacons: HP reduced from 381 → 200, now have a 38% chance to drop Estus/Ashen flasks and give 25 souls.
Tall Deacons (4 total): HP increased from 285 → 350, but now drop Estus (38%) and 25 souls.
Small Deacons: HP reduced from 183 → 120, with a 5% chance to drop Estus and 25 souls.
We also added a QoL improvement where killing deacons restores Estus, making the fight more forgiving than in vanilla.
Based on player data from our last patch (Sep 29, 2024), 219 players died to this boss while 412 beat it. That’s a K/D ratio of 0.5, meaning most people clear it on the first or second try.
Players are tankier in this mod thanks to better Vigor/Vitality scaling, new defensive rings, more healing items, and body buffs.
Balance is extremely important to us, and we take feedback seriously. We gather data from our testers, community feedback, and even public polls in our Discord, where players themselves vote on what needs to be added, changed, or adjusted. We also avoid making major changes to enemy defensive values since that would have a big impact on weapons with split elemental damage.
If your Zweihander +9 isn’t dealing damage, that’s not intended—maybe there’s a resistance issue or something else going on. If you can share a clip or some details on your setup, I’d be happy to have a look!
Thanks for commenting. Passive poise still works. If you don't notice it directly, I recommend stacking up on more poise or equipping a ring that significantly increases your hitstun resistance. There are about 5 rings that all increase poise. All wolf rings can stack with each other.
With heavy armor alone (without rings), you should be able to easily tank 4 or more hits from hollows, as you can see in the following gif. For balance reasons, this feature does not work as effectively against PvP or player characters, though.
