Earlier this year, I released Ack-Ack's Harlequins, an overhaul of the raider gang occupying the USAF Satellite Station Olivia, and although the mod did what it was supposed to do, the gang lacked any semblance of territorial influence beyond the satellite station. Ack-Ack's Harlequins Redux changes this, but what began as an update to the original mod became a complete rebuild from the ground up. While it maintains the original mod's aesthetic, almost all of its records have been changed/replaced (see the "Features" section below for specific details), so it is not safe to replace the original with the redux on an in-progress play through.

Features
To fully understand the differences between the original mod and this redux, compare the original mod's features with the details that follow:

  • Custom Face Pool: All faces have been completely rebuilt, but they still retain the same aesthetic as the original mod. Furthermore, the face pool has been increased to 70 faces, evenly split between men and women.
  • "Custom" Armor: As with the original mod, Ack-Ack's Harlequins Redux requires GrinnginUrchen's Toxic Raider Armour along with the standalone patch in that mod's optional files section in order to remove the AWKCR requirements. Additionally, molerats has contributed a blacked-out version of the Toxic Raider under armor that is distributed evenly with the default red (see screen shots) via a custom leveled list. For the sake of consistency, I've added a crafting recipe for the blacked-out under armor, which uses the same ingredients as the default under armor's recipe. It is found in the chem station under Toxic Raider Clothes - Black.
  • Dedicated Records: The Harlequins have been almost completely disconnected from common raider records and have been given their own dedicated Harlequin records instead. Now, they have their own class, combat style, faction, base templates (including legendary varieties), and so forth. Of particular note is their dedicated faction, which now makes them hostile to nearly everyone, including other raider gangs. Even their dogs are part of this faction. Likewise, their nameplate displays as "Harlequin" rather than "Raider."
  • Expanded Influence: This mod assumes that the gang holds sway over the northwest corner of the map, and to reflect this, the small "independent" raiders in that region have been converted into Harlequins. This includes the small group camped between Olivia and Sanctuary Lake, the group under the powerlines west of Abernathy Farm, and the lone raider in the shack to the northwest of Sanctuary Hills. Likewise, both the hostile target-shooting scavenger along the northern shore of Sanctuary Lake and the hostile scavenger in the shack near the edge of the map to the north of Olivia have been converted into Harlequins, and they are no longer alone. Even the various raider corpses in the region have been converted. Finally, I've placed additional Harlequins throughout their territory, with the highest density at or in close proximity to Olivia.
  • Mole Rat Friends: Version 3 adds the suicide mole rat and its pack to the Harlequin faction to avoid conflicts between the two groups before the player even arrives.

Future Plans
What follows is a list of additions I'd like to make to this mod, but none of them are guaranteed, as some of them require modding skills I don't currently possess, while others may not be possible at all due to engine limitations.

  • Expanded Face Pool: Eventually, I want to increase the face pool to 100 faces.
  • Harlequin Patrols: Something along the same lines as Unique Raider Gangs And Patrols. This may result in removing some of the Harlequin groups I've placed, as they would no longer be needed.
  • Camps: Sleeping bags, campfires, shelters, etc. for some of the Harlequin groups I've placed in the world to bring them in line with the converted groups mentioned in the "Expanded Influence" section above. Between all of them, it should give the impression that the Harlequins have outposts within their territory.
  • More Armor Colors: Molerats and I have discussed adding more color combinations to the Toxic Raider armor in order to create more variety among the Harlequins.
  • Settlement Attacks: Add Harlequins to settlement attacks, but limit their targets to Sanctuary Hill, the Red Rocket, Abernathy Farm, and Tenpines Bluff, as those are the only settlements that are within (or just outside) their territory. If such limits are possible, it may be extended to account for custom settlements that meet the same criteria.

Compatibility
As noted, this mod is not an update for the original Ack-Ack's Harlequins mod, and it should not be installed on a save that is using the original mod. Doing so will likely break your save. Similarly, I don't recommend installing this mod on a save if you have already visited Olivia (or got close enough for its occupants to spawn), as the converted Harlequins will revert to vanilla raiders upon respawn. As well, this may apply to the converted scavengers (I was unable to confirm), but it does not appear to affect the other converted raiders out in the world.
