Enjoy New Vegas Bounties 3, but don't like the "Scarred" perk? Tired of having to choose between either coping with the debuffs or using console commands to remove it? Tired of patrolling the Mojave with gimped hands? Starting to regret finishing New Vegas Bounties 3? Sick of having to play through the rest of the campaign with slower guns? This mod's for you! This addon for Someguy's New Vegas Bounties III removes all the debuffs from the Scarred perk you recieve at the end of the campaign. Instead, every stat it alters is buffed instead. You'll equip and fire faster in addition to dealing more damage.
Addon for Someguy's New Vegas Bounties 3. All the usual requirements apply.
Comes with two versions: one that only works for Guns, and another that works for all weapons. Pick one or the other, you silly goose.
[Why make this mod?]
From a narrative standard, Scarred is a solid in-game reflection of your character's trauma. From a game design standpoint, the Scarred perk was extremely flawed. Mandatory perks you have no choice but to take are already pushing it, but giving them drawbacks you can't negate is a huge blunder. Traits work because they can be chosen or ignored, allowing you to min-max certain options. It forces the player to either choose between trying to cope with a drawback for the rest of their playthrough, or outright avoid the mod's content altogether. It also ignores the player's choices and play-style. If you picked a build that sacrificed damage for speed, the perk would totally invalidate that. Player agency is extremely important in a game like New Vegas.
Mandatory perks should only have positive effects. Despite this, from a narrative standpoint, this mod does its best to stick to the theme of Someguy's original vision. Your Courier is still permanently injured and in pain. Only now, the pain drives them. It fuels them. Same concept, difference execution.
[Perk Stats]
Perk Description: "You've emerged from the grave and cheated death once again. The scars you bear steel your resolve to defeat all those who have wronged you, making you draw your weapons quicker, attack faster, and do more damage."
* Kept damage bonus the same as the original (1.1x)
* Removed VATS AP penalty of 1.1x usage
* Reload Speed Debuff is now a Buff (0.75x -> 1.1x)
* Attack Speed Debuff is now a Buff (0.9x -> 1.1x)
[Isn't this overpowered?]
You have to play through three different DLC-sized mods to get this, defeating multiple bosses and likely investing several hours of gameplay. In my humble opinion, it's the exact right amount of powered for all that effort. Of course, if you don't agree, feel free to either skip right over this mod, or open up FNVEdit and change the stats to your liking.
