ATM I am ressurecting this mod and doing so entirely from android via wine/dxvulkan/box86/box64
So I am actually playing, testing, developing the mod atm all within android.

Releasing an update would be nice, definitely a tweak and easier accessibility will do a lot. And for a video game dot in history like Oblivion, it's a great thing.

So an article (https://www.sportskeeda.com/esports/how-install-play-elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion-multiplayer-mod) thats dated for April 15th 2022 shows how to get this up and running, and doesn't say anything about it not working, so in theory it should still work.
Damn, yeah, was looking forward to this but the tutorial sucks, or rather is essentially non-existent. I do get an error that says "We detected OBSE is already installed but us not using version 0.0.15.3", which is strange because OBSE says to use the newer versions and it's backwards-compatible with mods anyway.
Even worse, the only versions of OBSE available on the site are "obse_0015a" and "obse_0015", I guess the only way I'm supposed to figure out which is [...].3 is trial and error. Either way I don't see how this .exe is supposed to inject the spells "OBonline" and "OBoffline" into the game, let alone into the spell shop in the Market District; testing it with the newest version of OBSE I see nothing but the original spells. I suppose I'll do some trial and error but I'll be pretty peeved if after all that it still doesn't work (update, the error is stifled when running obse_0015).
There's a big ol' "Launch Game" button which makes me think that's what'll inject stuff into the game, (but since I'm using obse_0015 it tells me I have an "unknown version of Oblivion") it says to run it with Steam instead of that button. 🤷♂️ Running with obse_0015 also gives a "Connection error", "enter adress and port"... 🤷♂️🤷♂️
And then there's the "RealmList". The description says "Edit realmlist.wth file with a texteditor to change which server you connect to." Except... I don't see a "realmlist.wth" file. Running the .exe there is a top bar button that says "Edit RealmList" so I guess that's what it meant (not just "a texteditor"), but then what? The server I want to connect to, port on the bottom? And... if I'll be the one hosting the server, do I leave it untouched?..
Then in the terminal that appears after you start the server, "ServerSettings.ini not found. Using default port."--oh, okay? So I guess that's the file I want to create and edit? Cool, that's good to know...
I'm going to assume running with the most recent version of OBSE is necessary unless you have an older version of Oblivion because with an unknown version I doubt OBSE can run properly; and maybe that's the main reason it doesn't work anymore, perhaps we need the version of Oblivion that existed when this mod was made, circa 2016 or something. UPDATE: Scrounging through these posts I found this bit of info from the dev: "Just be sure your oblivion is running patch 1.2.0416 or is a lower version than this". Considering there's no easy way to roll back to an old version on Steam (or even check what "patch version" the game is, though Steam says the "Build ID" is 1510065, so maybe that means 1.51.0065???), I'm not willing to sit around forever to try to get the version that works, and then convince the person I want to play with to do the same thing.
Makes me wonder if there's a GitHub somewhere with more documentation than this mod page contains, because this is astonishingly vague...
EDIT: I think it's pretty safe to say this mod doesn't work anymore, but check out the OnBlivion mod which is currently in development (but currently unavailable), being worked on by Cole DeVingo: https://discord.com/invite/3YM4E7cUsJ
so I just installed this so I could play with one of my friends but he's not available very often, does anyone here passing through the comments wanna run a new playthrough? my discords nightbot#3818 if you wanna chat, im East Coast NA
Fast travel, GameYear, GameMonth, gameDay, GameHour, animations, equipment, location all synched, successfully implemented a raknet udp layer on top of tcp bundled in a single server.exe, currently experimenting npc/mob location and health synch, udp will also allow voicechat with no dependencies. Location/animation synch will get better but is working well thus far
Unfortunately can't really say yet, however I will be documenting all the progress on my YouTube, I'm still trying to get npc/mob synch to work correctly, it's not 100% quite yet, and I'm making progress on replicating what the player is activating, like sitting on a chair or riding a horse and after those two I will likely release a beta on a new mod page. I'll be sure to link to it since this one is totally dead

So, suffice to say that update probably isn't happening?
