I am currently looking into mods that add new life into my Skyrim. This is a really interesting idea. I will keep an eye out for the development of this mod. Just wanted to let you know that there are more people still waiting for further development of this mod project.
love this idea! floating islands are always welcomed. maybe some cool runic rocks or statues of forgotten worshipped entities could be found on certain ones? scenic things like unknown bones and other objects to elude to forgotten history,
id also imagine some islands served as a port for the ancient dwemer ships. has to have at least one unique battle on one of the islands... maybe a small arena where stone and dwemer creatures come to life like a ancient training grounds. if you have the permissions from the author of bird races could even give some of them homes on the islands.
would be neat to have a npc obsessed with finding a way up to the islands as well that you can encounter in taverns that gives you a reason to seek them out. also another NPC after solving many of your puzzles and challenges that will reward you with a item that used would bring you to one of the islands with the activated beacon? making it a way for people to actually get up there lore wise and a way for you to sorta fast travel glide wise. could make a unique merchant with his shop attached to one of the air balloons or flying airship thats been released recently i could try to link. a nod to the bug merchant from skyward sword.
have to have a oasis on one of the islands, or a decent sized pond for some fishing, frogs and other peaceful creatures. another zelda feel mod would be a shrine like dungeon that allows you to activate a magic that summons a spirit version of you that will use different weapons and abilities in your inventory to fight against over and over.
also sorry to keep bugging you... but you could make neat smaller quest that also sends you to several islands to activate these magic pillars that once all on will open a portal beam on one of the islands that will float you to another world space like skyward sword above the clouds no one can see, one massive island with a small fortress with beings like the psjic order and one who betrays the rest and you have to glide around and battle them so they cant position all the islands in the right order and make them fall to wipe out the lower world. we need a evil sky elf wizard floating island fight with cool story implementations lol
You're not bugging me at all! These are amazing ideas, I can see that we're definitely on the same mindspace on some things. I'll try to implement these! Wish you the best!
glad to hear! ive always had ideas but never the skill to realize them myself, so if you ever need any i am a endless well. and something about floating islands are so cool.
also quick question, if i add this into my game now which is a pretty late save should be ok? and once you start updating and adding all the new islands and such it should be alright to update mid game or should i just wait incase?
This is a good concept, and you should definitely keep at it. I know it's in poor taste to shill my own stuff, but I made skyboxes for Oblivion, if you're interested, I think it could be neat thing to pursue, for example, sky island 'dungeons' surrounded by a skybox.
Ooh! Like you go in the dungeon area and it triggers a new skybox, weather, or cell? I think that'd be really cool! I think it could also be a cool idea to have the skies as a separate region(s) and with separate weathers. If that wouldn't be too much work. Of course, anyone is allowed to use, fix, or add on to my mod, as long as you give credit. I'll add anything to the project, as long as it's appropriate to the project and I consider officially adding it!
An actual skybox model (big cube), with a texture, the engine does support it (this is Oblivion, but it should work fine in Skyrim as well.)
Think an interior cell with the floating islands, and then surrounding them is a big cube with a texture. There's a lot of unique dungeon potential in this idea I think.
Ah, I think that could be nice! I know you just said interior cell, but could we be able to incorporate that in the world somehow, as seamless as possible? Perhaps a skybox, then covered up by effects or LOD's?
.... how about using the same world that meridia takes you to? you know- you float up and the world-space of skyrim is bellow you, not sure how it would work but maybe it could, also for clouds you can use the clouds around some mountains (like the ones on sky haven temple)
I really like the idea. I already use "Floating Islands of Legend" from Shakenmods and "Yggdrasil - World Tree Redux" here on Nexus, so yours will be more than welcome.
I really hope you don't edit the same areas so I can have them all floating together... this will put real sense into the Sky-rim thing other than having a peak named the throat of the world.
Yes! I'll see about that Winterhold island. Maybe you could reply or message me about more of what you want for this island, or I could take care of it. And, as for the "areas", do you mean that they'll all be open world and accessible? Because that's what I'm planning, they'll always be able to be flown to from anywhere.
By editing the same areas I mean I hope they're not in the same spot as the other floating islands from the other mods (they're not, I've already checked).
As for Winterhold, well... lore says there was a magic accident. This is why half the city is destroyed and the college bridge is broken, so, I was wondering, maybe part of the city went up in the skies along with another statue of Shalidor? Just saying. Whatever you imagine will be great.
Ah, okay. I remember that. I can try to focus it off Skyrim's lore, although the citizen's of Winterhold are confusing in their answers on how it actually happened, so maybe I could try and make my own true answer to it and the sky island. Thank you!
I really like this, would definitely like to see you expand on it.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or just a failed install, will try reinstalling this weekend, but something was wrong with the island just northeast of Whiterun. It's significantly larger than any of the other islands (I think, wasn't able to find the one in Eastmarch), but doesn't have any textures and random bits are floating off to the side.
Weird. It looks completely fine in my game. I'm not using any mods with the mod currently, and I built it completely off of vanilla Skyrim. Maybe you have a mod conflict, or as you said, something wrong with the install? You could try and use More Informative Console to see what could be editing it. Please report anything else if you need help or find something!
Reinstalled a fresh download, and the island looks fine now. Also, just for the heck of it, built a quick Campfire camp on one of the islands and took a screen shot.

Have fun and good luck :)

then i remembered that occasionally mammoths (and other creatures) drop out of the sky for NO REASON.
they fell off of the sky islands, makes perfect sense now, it wasn't a bug after all...
