November 11th, 2021, 10-Year Skyrim Anniversary Update: SMIM works perfectly fine with the new Anniversary Edition update and the according paid DLC. So keep enjoying SMIM!

Donations: Thank you per usual to those who continue to donate a few dollars here and there. Even ten years after Skyrim was released, kind souls occasionally donate, and those donation email notifications warm my heart!

A Personal Note: Can it really be 10 years since Skyrim was released? When I began SMIM, I was a single guy who'd work all day and come home and mod all night. Those were wonderful years, lost in my creative modding pursuits. Then I met the love of my life and got married in 2017. I made the difficult decision to retire from modding around 2018, and now I have a precious two-year-old son. These days I channel my creative energy into game reviews, and I'm also writing several books. Even though I'm not an active modder anymore, my heart has never left SMIM. I cherish the memories of those early Skyrim years and am blessed to know that legions of players from around the world have enjoyed SMIM. Thank you all for using my mod. To quote Morrowind and Oblivion, I wish you all wealth beyond measure and a glorious existence, truly!

These missing textures clearly point to SMIM causing it. Can someone please tell me how to fix this? There are no conflicts at all, the only FormID change was done by SMIM and SMIM only. This is in Brittleshin Pass. I downloaded this file multiple times to make sure nothing was corrupt and I use MO2 so I'm stumped as to what's causing these missing textures.

Nevermind, it was Skurkbro's Retexture Project AIO causing those missing textures (which gets thrown under the SMIM esp). Fixed it by hiding these files in Skurkbro's texture folder: screenshot of solution

I could finally solve the exact same problem on my build. Thank you so much for sharing your fix!!

I had the same problem lol.  Why does this happen is both mods supply textures for the roots and rocks?

Are you sure it's not a VRAM issue?  If two retexture mods conflict with each other one simply overwrites the other.

No, it's not a VRAM issue as I have 12GB VRAM (3080ti) and the problem went away as soon as I hid those files. If it was VRAM, there would be major stuttering and/or crashing. It's just wrong texture file pathing from Skurkbro (I've since dropped his retexture and went with shish15 and Hein84 packs instead). Remember that purple textures can only mean one thing: missing textures or wrong texture path. A VRAM issue would mean black textures like we used to get in Oldrim when passing the 32bit engine limit.

What is the fix again? Trying to find the relevant texture files to hide as you mentioned above.  The image you linked is no longer available.

Sorry it was someone else's screenshot and they've deleted it.

BUT... this is the fix, simply download Better Dirt Cliffs and Alphas as it's stated as a requirement by Skurkbro on his pinned comment. That's why you're getting the purple textures in the first place, as Skurkbro used the meshes from the linked mod.

In short, you don't need to hide any files, but instead download Better Dirt Cliffs and Alphas (and let Skurkbros overwrite it obviously).

Hey, Enhanced Lights and FX (ELFX) v.3.06 conflicts with 66 .nif (!!) and 3 .dds files of SMIM. Mainly Whiterun and farmhouse buildings. Is the only way to preserve SMIM's fixed models to load it after ELFX? Is there any possibility for a patch? Because I believe Whiterun has many/most of the same atrocious texture stretching as in vanilla when ELFX loads last :(

just found out i am having an issue with ruinsfurniturerubble15.nif and my shaders. Seems like this might have been fixed in the LE version from the changelog? any fixes aside from Hiding/deleting it?

Considering that SMIM has not been updated in nearly six years, is this still the defacto best choice as a pack of mesh improvements? I have been using it all this time never even stopping to question whether there is anyone doing a modern mesh improvement pack.

Yes and no, for a broad all-encompassing improvement SMIM is still king but mods that improve specific textures will likely do a better job than SMIM (albeit only for those specific textures.) I use SMIM as a baseline "make everything better" mod and overwrite it as needed with specific texture mods

Kind of weird asking this...with how old SMIM is, but I noticed there is a conflict between SMIM and USSEP/Skyrim.esm in which 2 "DockStepsDownEnd01" are repositioned. I always thought SMIM was only a texture replacer mod. I assume this is ok to leave it overwrite USSEP? Or should I carry forward USSEP changes? https://ibb.co/dbTtJkm

smim crash log near Northwatch Keep.

    Show

I uninstalled this mod right after that crash. If someone figures out what the log says and has a fix for it, then I reinstall it.

How did you install it? Sometimes vortex sadly leaves fragments of mods behind. When I started modding, I had exactly this issue with ELFX one time and searched hours just to discover that Vortex (after I migrated my deployment to the newer Lux Lighting mod and uninstalled ELFX) had left nif-files, therefore objects without a texture in the meshes folder. Check your Skyrim data folder in meshes and lock if there is some folder where there is no "folder is managed by vortex" hardlink-file. This is a file that your computer will most commonly not specify and claims it to solely be a "file", in mods that are properly deployed there is such a file in the folder, if there is no such file, chances are high that vortex left fragments. But no guarantee for that generalisation because there are many ways files find their way into the data folder, even by runtime from the game itself, and I don't know how you deployed all of your files. That said just check the meshes folder with what I said and if you are unsure what to delete, feel free to come back and ask :)
