So after much trouble with getting main menu music mods working, and with a LOT of searching... I figured out how to get the music loading properly.

First, it's important to understand that the issues players have been having might be caused by MULTIPLE problems, which is why no single fix seems to work for some players. That was the case for me, and I fixed it, and even put a few of my own songs into Starfield.

This 'mod' contains broad instructions on how to properly format your audio and WWise settings to get this to work, and also contains instructions for players and modders regarding the StarfieldCustom.ini file.

Here's the rundown:

  • [Mod Authors] The source audio must be 48kHz sample rate, 32-bit floating point bit depth
  • [Mod Authors] WWise Project Settings (under the Source Settings tab) must be set to PCM Auto High
  • [Mod Authors] Now AFTER AND ONLY AFTER CHANGING THE PCM AUTO HIGH SETTINGS must you import your audio.
  • [Mod Authors] If you don't do it in that order, you'll need to re-import it and select to create a new SFX Object -> Replace Existing instead of use existing
  • [Mod Authors] After converting, rename the .wem music file to: 456350239 for all normal playthroughs. Rename it to 471598494 for new game+ plays.
  • [Players] Finally, a lingering issue is that some StarfieldCustom.ini files DO NOT HAVE THE PROPER ENCODING. The default encoding by Notepad on Windows doesn't work. So if you create a new txt file and reformat it to ini like many tutorials show, it won't work. To fix that, use the StarfieldCustom.ini file included in this mod. That one works. You'll need to add back any custom stuff you added to it other than the standard mod enabler archive and dirs lines.

That's it. This isn't a detailed guide, just an overview of formatting, import and export order, etc. Any gaps in knowledge, just check out a bunch of menu music mod pages and you'll figure it out.

Included in this mod is a working StarfieldCustom.ini file and a main menu replacement song to go with it so you can test it and verify that it's working for yourself.

The included song is just a quick rendition of The Dragonborn Comes that I put together for fun using some sample libraries from East West. (quantum leap / soundsonline)
