PPF patches for patching the game exe to remove certain Post Processing Effects +

Permissions and credits
Note: the following is a work in progress as i've only just started the story and will add more fixes
as i progress through the game (when i can find the stuff to disable)

Camera Fixes for Star Wars Outlaws

PPF Patches

these types of patches are usually used to patch cd images (iso's)
but can also be made to patch other file types.

Instructions:

use PPF-O-Matic

you will have to find this yourself as it's usually found on console modding sites.

1. choose  "all files" from the drop down menu to change it from cd images"
and then find your game executable (it says ISO in the app)

2. choose patch file: nameofpatch.ppf

3. hit apply

do the same for each patch, or just the ones you want to use.

undo data is included in each patch so you can revert the changes.

enjoy the game without the forced effects you can't turn off.

as a bonus, don't forget to give a middle finger to ubi.

current patches:

patches will be updated when a new game patch is pushed to players.
already noticed some of the patches crash the game on the new game update.

#1 Depth of Field (DOF) Off
you all know what this is by now.
example: blurred background while foreground is focused
in this game, if you zoom the camera and rotate to the front of Kay she gets blurred
also if you zoom in on things behind some gates the camera can't decide what to blur..
that is why DOF sucks in video games.
there's either too much blur or it's done so badly it looks worse than film and tv blur.
in film, tv it looks good and fine but in video games, i hate it.

updated to now remove the random blur when looking through gates and possibly other instances of random blur.

#2 Lens Distortion (Fish Eye effect) Off

ref: https://photographylife.com/what-is-distortion
are we human or are we fish?

#3 Chromatic Abberration / Lens Fringing Off
ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromatic_aberration
my eyes you b**** YOU HAVEN'T THOUGHT ABOUT MY EYES!!

ref: https://thattogspot.com/what-is-fringing-how-to-avoid-and-how-to-fix-it/
(goes with chromatic abberration)

#4 Temporal Anti Aliasing (TAA) Off
ref:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_anti-aliasing
ref: (opinions) https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/pdu3p6/forced_taa_is_becoming_the_standard_for_games_it/
ref: (opinions) https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/yz9pm2/i_hate_taa_and_i_hate_how_tons_of_new_games_only/
ref: (more in-depth) https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2024-temporal-anti-aliasing-a-blessing-or-a-curse
imo it is an evil curse on games and gamers.
like DOF, you  should know what this garbage is by now.
to remind those who have forgotten...or don't want to read up about it...
it's AA but worse. standard AA aims to blur jagged edges, lines, surfaces
TAA not only blurs all those sexy jaggies it also tends (more often than not) to blur out fine details
(in some games it blurs more than others)
in this game i'd say it's pretty blurry on vanilla settings, more than battlefront II and Squadrons. (imo)
why do developers use FORCED TAA? added to games to hide things they either couldn't fix,
or ran out of time to or couldn't be bothered to sort out. (gotta be one of those i bet)
first thing you notice with TAA off in this game is your characters iffy hair which TAA blurs.
personally i can live with the hair looking fuzzy, others will probably think it looks like ass now.
the overall general scene you see on screen becomes clearer,
with crisp edges and non blurry fine details (though some straight lines look now somewhat jaggy).
meh...you say? small price to pay for visual clarity.
sorry to photo mode lovers, i prefer my video games to look like video games and not movies.
the only good use of TAA and DOF is for taking pretty screen shots for your desktop or just gameplay memories
but general gameplay it just looks blurry and no thanks i'm good bro, you can keep your TAA and DOF.

holy ***t batman wall of text.

#5 Vignette (darkened screen corners) Off
self explanitory. the screen corners are darkened.
(may be more instances of vignette to disable)

#6 Lens Glare (lens dirt and horizontal flares) Off
ref: https://imgur.com/YUqUpmz
(example pic from battlefield 3 showing lens flare dirt, yeah, no thanks i hate it)
more examples on below link...
ref: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=lens+flare+dirt&t=newext&atb=v441-1&iax=images&ia=images&iar=images
in the flares on some lights in this game, there are transparent circles which i assume are meant to be lens dirt.

#7 Lens Veiling Glare (described as added noise, loss of contrast and definition) Off
ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veiling_glare
seems like something you might not want in a video game.

possibly other lens flares still exist. so will keep looking for other stuff...

#8 Bloom Off
bloom is the glow you see around things in videos games often like the glow on light fixtures, clouds, various light sources, the sun, moon,
muzzle flashes, weapons, explosions and so on.
it's often overdone in games and can add blur to whatever the bloom appears on.
in this game it makes things look "soft" for example it makes the sun and the sky look blurry, like you are looking at the sky through a lens on some crap cheap telescope.

#9 Colour Grading Off *not uploaded yet, still testing*

colour / color grading or correction is extra post processing applied to an image, video, game scene.
in this game for example the first location has a purplish tint to everything outside.

added some screenshots that compare the original colours of the first location to the same location but with the grading disabled (removed)

if you are familar with games like battlefield 3 and the new battlefront games you will probably be aware those games used colour grading.
in games it often makes a scene look darker than it really is as the real colours are masked by a fake "cinematic" colour scheme.

anyone remember Wake Island in Battlefield 3 without grading? it looked like the lush setting it's mean to be but with the
"cinematic" ugh.. post processing it was instead a grey / black wasteland with not much i terms of realistic colour.

#10 Melee Distortion Effect Off

disables the silly distortion effect when you punch enemies.

#11 Low Health / Death Screen Desaturation Off

disables the desaturation effect so the screen does not lose all colour,
when you are low on health or when you die, as these are linked so the effect is disabled for both things.

#12 Ray Traced Reflections Off *NOT A PATCH*

not a patch but modified settings to .cfg
many surfaces have a chrome / silver colour applied to them via ray tracing
which makes some surfaces look too bright, bad and can result in a loss in texture detail.
(these are just opinions of course)
also it hides the actual colour / texture(s) of many surfaces.
example a blackish cup becomes silver and shiny,
a black coloured wall becomes chrome looking

the other issue is shimmering, flickering, ghosting, twinkling dots/pixels

side effects from ray tracing (other games suffer from rendering glitches)
usually only visible when you force disable TAA.

in this game....
lower RT settings produce more rendering glitches and a blurred appearance of some surfaces and objects)
whereas higher settings produce less glitches but less blur,
but the artifacts are still there, just not as noticable unless standing still,
it is noticable more on trees blowing in the wind
the artifacts look like twinkling dots/pixels

i suspect the reason for TAA in many games like this is to try and hide the dodgy rendering glitches.

some comparison screenshots have been added.

motion artifacts with TAA disabled look bad but it's because of the ray tracing. (rt diffuse)
if you disable that they stop. but then you lose some lighting and shiny surfaces on buildings and other things.
stuff then looks meh...

current workaround to still have no TAA, have little to no glitches, but keep RT working but on minium settings
is motion blur 1 (0.1) in cfg
per object motion blur 1 (0.1) in cfg
this is because the glitches are motion triggered. panning camera makes them appear but basically stop when you stand still.

#13 Interact Markers Off *NOT A PATCH*

requires shader toggler from github & reshade with addon support.
site/download links in readme.

hides some shaders;

green outline on bacta pickups
white outline on pickups (stuff to steal)
glint animation on items (pickups, chests)
circle / dot on pickups and interact objects

also hides;

v takedown indcator
grapple indicator

possibly hides other interacts, these are extra ones i've now noticed.

brought to you by someone who "dislikes" ubisoft.
your games are garbage, your launcher is garbage, your support is garbage,
your obsession with making sp games online only sucks and your use of denuvo in every game is laughable.
and no i didn't pre-order this game, or buy it full price on any edition.
i got a cheap intel cpu game code off ebay.
you don't deserve consumer support through your rip off store.

buy games cheap from third party vendors. don't give ubi full profits.

RIP Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Far Cry.

please for the love all things, stop making far cry games.

jfc how many times you can you recycle the same crap? it's like playing CoD.
