Nexus deleted 2 of my mods hence I decided to switch to [Blocked URL: Known disreputable website] for now: https://rpghq.org/forums/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2915
I will publish all 'controversial' mods on there from now on.
Wow, I feel dense for this never occuring to me. Mind just registered it as bird dookie. Clever CDPR, clever. Doubly so for making me feel dumb for it not occuring to me until a modder pointed it out. lol
I guess I would need to look at w2l or whatever files then figure out which exact file handles that specific cliff then look at the texture directory. Not really difficult yet very, very tiresome hence do not expect me to release an update anytime soon. The game has no proper modding documentation hence finding specific texture files is a mess. That aside all of my transparent textures are not even 2k in resolution. IIRC something like 1024 x 768.
Thank you for the mod! A must have! Also, off topic, can you post the link for the Light and Shadow Full Customization Suite that you fixed for next gen?
I knew someone would ask for that sooner or later haha. Yeah I should still have the files. I will upload them in a few days as I am currently busy with other projects and games.
I do not get notifications when someone responds to my comments btw. No idea why to be honest.
The mod update is out. I tested it yet only for a few minutes hence let me know if you see any issues. Make sure to also install the DLC folder and BIN .xml file from the original mod. If you use mods like true fires I suggest you disable the mod because it breaks shadows if you tweak the settings. Not really a fault of either other mod authors or me due to the fact the games rendering engine is very old hence outdated on top of being downgraded to make the game playable on consoles. Basically it glitches out all the time on top of having many limitations hence using many mods can overload it and cause graphical issues especially in larger cities like Novigrad.
Lolzzl Sorry, the link is dead again. do you have a more permanent one? I didn't check back last few weeks. Now it's dead and I can't download it. Thank you.
I thought about removing salt textures long before yellow paint become popular (before RE4 remake) yet I was busy with other things and decided to make the mod after I saw a mod request. The entire thing is very funny because ~10+ years ago developers could still guide players without insulting their intelligence as much. Environmental guidance can be achieved while making sure the art style of a game survives yet most developers choose to either insult a player by giving him far too much information (dialogue, witcher senses, objectives tab etc) in order to reach 'a larger audience' aka larger profits.
I'm not against accessibility and I think it's a genius way, even just a simple "salt" on the cliff or the white trail on the arrow. But I agree it should give the option to either make the game challenging for our eyes, or to guide us if we lost.
I don't mind if a game has accessibility features to reach more players, but it should also have options in the settings to hide these accessibility gimmicks from everyone who wants them. The Witcher 3 is a game that I love but when it came out I found its basic HUD too obtrusive and I think that some developers realized this because they put a lot of options in the game to be able to to use. hide. The only option that was really missing was that damn white paint for me. The developers did a fantastic job of making its world believable, but on the other hand, they focused too much on accessibility gimmicks like this that ruin that immersion. I find all this really unfortunate.
Good examples of giving the player UI options are some of the AC games from Ubisoft. For all of their faults most of the new ones allow players to toggle off many guidance elements of the HUD. The AC games are not exactly great despite that because some other systems they include to guide the player cannot be disabled yet I cannot think of any other AAA game company that bothers to give the players more choices. CDPR only allowed players to officially hide the mini map when not using witcher senses almost a decade after launch while AC Origins already allowed the player to turn off certain elements of the HUD despite releasing only 2 years later while Witcher 3 was still getting updated.
I completely deactivate the mini map in the game, it's thanks to games like the first Baldur's Gate (BG1 and 2) or Morrowind that I started doing this. If I want to see the map, I open it in the menus. it forces you to remember and plan the path you will take. This is not the only game where I did KOTOR (Knight of The Old Republic) for example also I deactivate the mini map
Thanks for this mod :) I've got a request for you: can you make a version that's 80% transparent and 20% visible, so that the salt is visible to new players and is much more discreet?
The edit is out. I used 4k textures from another one of my projects. I tweaked the opacity % based on my lighting mods hence the textures might look off on vanilla lighting. Let me know if that is the case.
Nicely done! Can't believe it's taken this long for someone to come up with this, but it is a welcome mod since I really hate that kind of visual hand-holding in games.
One of the reasons I started modding is the fact many quality of life mods were simply not published. Sometimes I would think of a mod idea then look online and become confused once I saw that no one created anything similar. A few of my mods are just updates of previous ones yet things like book popup timers and clue inspection animations were not edited by anyone else. I plan on releasing a few more mods yet that number varies greatly depending on how advanced the new promised mod tools will be.
I only realized the salt textures are separate from the cliff textures after looking at the games files only to then misremember that fact weeks later. The human psyche can be a bit complex at times :P

Please don't replace them for 8k transparent textures.
